I'm going to be submitting my vectors to fotolia soon, and basically doing a *whole* bunch of work to get my portfolio in strong.
Whats the deal with vectors on fotolia? Someone told me only SVG is allowed, is this true? Can they be FTPed in the same manner as shutterstock?

Actually they're easier than at SS. No jpg required. Just upload the SVG and Fotolia converts it into the various jpg sizes.
I've only recently begun uploading vectors to Fotolia, and was previously just uploading large JPGs of my vector work. I haven't seen much of a sales difference between offerring vector versions vs. jpg-only, but it's probably too early to tell for sure.

I have also just started upload vector files but haven't noticed any increase in uploads at all. It would be great if other sites also accepted svg files because I find it a bit of a hassle doing different formats for different sites. I find that fotolia dosen't read the iptc data so it needs copy and pasting in and also you have to keep the files size under 1mb

I haven't submitted any vector files to FT, although I sell illustrations well there.
Hmm, SVG, I don't know that, is it just a matter of "save as..." in AI?
How are vectors priced? I understand the JPEGs are anyway available.

I haven't beed that successful on Fotolia with vectors. Been having a lot of trouble with SVG format limitations (doubled by the 1MB size limit as mentioned by nicemonkey). SVG is an enemy to Adobe gradient meshes, that's my biggest complain. The second applies only to those that sometimes make vectors with +100K v-points, which makes it impossible to squeeze it under 1 megabyte. I'm one of them;)
p.s.: Besides: no "real" sales on F with vectors anyways. Things could change, hope so, but the site (at least to me) seems dead vector-wise pretty much like BigStock.

The only place that I upload the original vectors to (at the moment) is iStock. Largely that's because of the pricing models everywhere else - either too cheap in general or no notion of complexity influencing the price of the file.
IOW, if a very complex vector is the same price as an extraordinarily detailed one, I don't think it makes sense. SS is just too cheap. DT is 2x the maximum size price (which is level dependent) but all vectors are the same. FT is 7 credits, I think, again with no regard to complexity. I don't mind selling the JPEGs at image prices because the buyer doesn't get the extra value of editability for that price.
SVG is just a Save As from Illustrator, but as I've never used that format and don't know what the issues are with the transformation (unlike going from CS3 to EPS v8, which I am), I really don't want to mess with it for just one site.

True, saving to SVG works with a simple export plugin (via "save as") with a couple of options that can be left unchanged (except maybe the embedding ones), but as said earlier, gradient meshes are not supported. Haven't noticed any other "defiances" yet, though.
p.s.: If the vectors are of a low path/point count, the files get ridiculously low in size (really, I'm talking dozens of KB here). Usually the filesize/pointcount ratio is better than with AI EPS8 format, but the 1MB limit is a pita. Hope they introduce EPS compatibility too...
Btw, jsnover, tried Stockxpert with vectors? I think they have complexity differentations. I noticed vectors for 5 and 10 credits (and these are a good earner with 5$ per sold file). But you have to exclude the subscribers out (or they will get them supercheap);)

I had noticed the pricing structure, but hadn't uploaded vectors to StockXpert - because until early this week I had opted in to subs and as you mentioned I wasn't about to let a vector go for 30 cents.
Now I've opted out I might reconsider, but I haven't been uploading to StockXpert recently after hearing all the stories of strange inspection experiences. If sales pick up again there I'll take another look.

My vector sales at Fotolia are very slow (like my photos) but yesterday i have one EL in one of my vectors (20 credits but i only get 8). And i agree that save in another format is pain but.... we can do nothing. And also agree that vector are a complex work and we are given them away. In one photo shoot of 2 hours we can have 20, 30 good shoots to upload, if you put more 2 hours to process and upload, you can in 4 hours, put 20 or 30 files to sell. In vector if i can do one in 4 hours is very good!!! And in photos the buyer get what he/she see, in vector you get one file that you can change as he/she need!

Speaking of vectors, StockXpert is my second best. Than comes Dreamstime. The first is of course SS (and iStock is offlimits, haven't been accepted (yet)). And the fourth 123RF.

Sometimes its within the hour. If I don't keyword right away I get a message from that nice lady "sunshine" to "get on it ASAP!"
Sunshine is a nice person and half the reason I keep going back! The other half is the awesome sales.

So if I'm getting it right, the whole SVG thing is not that hot? Not terribly surprised! I think what I'll do is just upload my orange men as SVG.

Leo did you have many sell in StockXpert? In fact i´m a really bad illustrator!!!! My shells in SPX Featurpics and Fotolia are very, very, very, very, bad!!! :(

For the most part, just my orange men and a few generic design elements. I'm a bad Illustrator too, so don't feel bad.

I disagree a bit. I agree that complex vector images can be very time consuming, but I also see a lot of reuse of elements in vector images. Like one draws a set of leaves and reuse them in many new ways.
Maybe it's just my incompetence also, because not only it takes me a long time to prepare one vector (and then I try to reuse it in many ways, like in my shamrock series), but also it takes me a long time to produce a series of mere four shots (setup, shoot, edit), which is not just one or two hours.

How's your vector sales in Fotolia? I am having a bad time selling vectors in Fotolia. What's the style here? Is is like SS wherein you should constantly upload to get more views/ sales?
Even my views are even very low... so what's your style?
