Title: free section
Post by: skyfish on August 11, 2016, 02:03
Something again at FT - file uploaded recently and accepted was moved to free section! I never checked "yes" for this! again to waste time to check files which are already online.
This file i deleted, hope they will delete it from their giveaway. Never ever something given for free generated any money. It attracts only people which want to have something for free. They never become buers, but bring their followers for the same.
Disgusting to receive a letter about this with "congratulations". Liars.
ps: all last files have "no" changed to "yes" for free section. It is not editable. Only to delete.

happened to me recently and this is the reply I got when I complained about it randomly happening:

"You are not able to permanently set defaults for your upload preferences. Generally the system will remember what you set for the previous image but if you accidentally click yes, the setting will change. I see you have already deleted the file so you should be all set. The image wasn't made available for download as only 3 images from our entire collection per week are available for download in the free section."

I've never set any image to free

You have to watch the donate box very closely sometimes it seems to change all by itself nearly caught out a few times

They wrote to you that you clicked - but if it is "no" nobody will click something especially and for multiple files.
What happen in my case, these last files were turned to free - "yes" and it is not editable. Their system did it. The only solution - to delete these files.
Especially i like this "Generally the system will remember", but only in interest of FT, if interest of contributor it will forget

You don't have to check "yes", the default is set to yes, it was always so. The very first thing I do when I upload is to select all files and check "NO". For a short time the checked "no" remains unchanged but later it resets to "yes".

For god's sake. Only 3 files per week are added for free download out of entire collection. So chances that your file will be selected are close to 0. Stop whining, and better check next time, what are you clicking.

FYI - it is warning for all to check, and i repeat - i didn't click that option to change, it was "no" when i sent the file.
Fact that there is probability 0 may be ok, but contributor only should decide to give something for free or not.
If you rent your apartment using service of agency and they let it for somebody for free will you be ok with that? Sure no.
No subject for discussion.

FT is very weird about defaults and not being able to change later.  You also have to watch them about the price of ELs - it will default to the lowest price even if you have set it higher so you have to verify every upload before submitting.

When I signed up with them somehow my account got set to pay in Great Britain pounds, even though I live in the US and signed up on their US site.  When I tried to change it I was told that was impossible, even though this would be a very easy programming change - the only option would be to set up a new account and resubmit all images.  No thank you to that.  Very frustrating.

"Never ever something given for free generated any money."

I'd disagree with that, but I can understand not wanting to give away files for free.

You are missing the whol point. The issue is about the corrupt way in which Fotolia sets their default to trick artists into providing free assets.  It nice that you don't seem to mind the risk, says a bit about how much you don't care what happens to your content. But those who try to manage their business to optimize returns, no matter how small, should be very concerned about how Fotolia cheats their contributors by tricking them through default settings. Those settings can easily be changed to default to NO. So it's pretty easy conclude why they do it.  If you don't care, fine but don't blast others who do actually care.

Only rejected files are moved to the free section if that box is checked. Not the accepted files. See FT statement below:

An image is only added to the free section if it has been refused and rejected for the standard collection. Removing the file from your account is the only way to delete it from the free section if it has been refused for the standard collection and approved for the free section

Thank you for finding. The file in question started to return from first days in other places, it is better to delete than keep it in free section. Other files are not sold so active, but anyway, nothing to expect from these files for me at FT
