Tnx all. No, when I was silver, I kept them on 50$ (an I could put them to 100), now that I am gold, I will leave them on 50$. When I become emerald, I will put my basic prices to x2.

Congrats,
Just wanted to say that I have all of my Els at 150$ and I sell just as many as when I had them at 10$.   Try it for a month or two and if you feel you are getting less then you can put them back down. Believe me it's great when you get nearly 60$ in your account.  One month I had 6 and it was my BME. The only place that I get more ELs than Fotolia is SS.

tnx all. It took me 17 months to become gold, since I started on FT. But it took a lot of hard work.

Fotografer, maybe you are right. I sell average 1 EX per month, so I have nothing to loose. I will put them all to 150, and when I sell one at least I can afford a decent prostitute for a night. LOL. Just joking. :D

Even if you only sold one every 2 months instead of one a month you would still gain but as I said mine didn't decrease at all.  The month that I  sold 6 was just after I put them up to 150$  :)

Congrats.  That's a great achievement.

I haven't had any EL in FT lately, and it used to be the place where I had them more frequently (just one every 2 months).

Regards,
Adelaide

congrats Peter! quite an achievement!
I got  to wait a little longer to get there.
as for putting the EL prices up  I'd suggest ,like others, it should at least be usd 100 remember that is the price on most site so why should you sell for  less over there .of course it's up to you.I don't think you'd loose an EL buyer just for the price difference I think they would buy the image as long as they are happy with it.go for 150 ,which is better:)

Tnx.

Before they introduced subscriptions, I used to sell 5-6 EX per month, now I sell 1 in one or two months. Perhaps buyers think when they buy subscription package, they have right to EX licence?!

Not to hijack this thread but I just got my first EL at FT.... a whopping $6.60 I earned? I'm feeling nauseous over this... please tell me this isn't a correct amount?  :o

Assuming that you are still "white" at FT (less than 100 sales) then, yes, that is what you'll get.
At that status your commission is 33% and the maximum price allowed for ELs is 20 credits.
When your status moves up you will be allowed to set higher prices, with the next step to bronze (after 100 sales) you can set prices up to 50 credits and your commission rises to 35%.

But why are you surprised? Did the site state something else when you entered into the contract with them to license your material?

yeah, as dirkr said the amount is right.  If you are at a higher status than white you should set up your extended license prices on all your images.  Just send a sitemail to admin and they will change all your pricing for you.  Whenever I change levels on fotolia I have raised my prices and now get $58.50 (39% of 150) for extended licenses making them one of the highest paying sites.

That is exactly why I do not make any of my images available for EL on FT... I think the amount they pay for them (at the bottom earnings level, which is what I'm at because my sales there suck compared to every other site) is insulting.

Yes, I am at the white level  :-[  FT is my worst earner & I flip flop on whether or not to focus on them. This just surprised me... it gives me a good idea of what I could work towards though!

Thanks Leaf!

Believe me it makes up for it when you start to get nearly 60$ for each EL which is much more than I get anywhere else

Do they queue images for review by contributor rank?  My review times have gotten longer and longer and my 7 day rank is lower than it ever has been. My acceptance rate is pretty bad too but that does not seem to be unusual at FT.

Dont think they review images for better ranks first. They all wait in the same queue. It takes about 3-4 days theese days.

congrats.

I've still many images set at $20 or $30 for an EL.  But because FT pays one of the worst royalties (37% in my case) I would like to bump them all to $100.  Is there a way to do this for all images ?  Don't want to go through every of my 1000 images seperately

Just send them a message asking them to bump them to 100$. I did this when I reached bronze and it was done in 2 days.

tnx, I'll give it a try

--

I checked my stats, and I had 14 EL's the last 1000 Dl's,  totalling 415 credits as sale price.

Just asked FT to increase all my files to 100 credits for a EL.  If they do so I'll track my next 1000 DL and see how much they yielded me.

I could be way off base, and I know a lot of people disagree, but IMHO now is not the time to be raising prices.

Even though the microstock market is still undervalued, with a worldwide recession people are wary of how they spend their money.

I really believe that buyers who see prices rising will be a bit more hesitant to part with their money - even if they can afford it, they may resent the rise on principle more than they would have in the past.

I am not familiar with your portfolio so maybe your style or subject matter are so unique you can charge whatever you want, but for most of us there are going to be similar images available at EL prices of much less than $100 and price conscious buyers might pick those instead.

I dont really care that much. I sell the same number of ELs when they were 50$, which is 1 every 2 months. It is not so often, so If I never sell any ELs on FT, I wont be loosing too much. FT ELs gets me about 1% total earnings.

Lisa,

maybe you are right, maybe not.  The only way to find out is the change the price every 1000 dl's and see what happens.

I must say I didn't really liked the $20 EL's I was getting.  At FT I only get 37% of it which is 7.4 credits.  Not that much.

Oh, yes, definitely $20 is low.  Mine are at $60 and I get around $24 of that.

Would love to hear your experience after having them at the higher rate for awhile.  Hopefully I am wrong (wouldn't be the first time!) and the buyers will still be biting :)
