It's sad this situation, "due to the recent Presidential Executive Order in the United States (Executive Order 13884) regarding activities with the government of Venezuela, Adobe is no longer permitted to provide you with access to software and services, or to make your Works available to customers."

I'm Very sad ! :'( :'( :'(

Understandably - I wonder if there are any exceptions for sole proprietors? I thought sanctions were to be imposed on high level officials?

Apparently Adobe's interpretation is broader than some other companies' - perhaps they'll change their view of what's needed to comply?

Wow! I'm so sorry! I am not much into politics so I don't know what exactly is going on, but I hate to see "small" people get hurt because of political games or whatever. I also wonder how will designers work there if they can't get Adobe software at all.

I just read about it in the news. The sanctions are quite comprehensive. US companies are forbidden to have any sort of contact from Venezuela. People can't even ask for refunds, that is forbidden by US sanctions. Nothing Adobe can do about it.

Why not to use VPN that gives you an IP from another country and access it?

VPN probably won't work because he still has to give paypal or bank account which are both revealing country where owner is from. But maybe is worth to try.

He also have to change his account to say he isn't from Venezuela. Not sure if Adobe Stock requires ID to proof one's country of residence?

Anyway, I don't think Adobe would make it easy for people to fool them (but who knows). Sanctions are a form of arm twisting. They aren't meant to be easy to get around.

It is so in theory, but the sanctions extend beyond. Companies like Adobe restrict their use and sale of software to all Venezuelans, whether or not they are from the government. it must be because they have no way of knowing who belongs to the government of Nicolas Maduro and then restricts all Venezuelans so as not to have problems with the United States Government.

Exactly right. And he would do the same thing to his political opponents here if he thought he could get away with it. So far, we haven't reached that point. Not yet.

Salman is ruthless with his opposition, Erdogan is ruthless with his opposition, Putin is ruthless with his opposition.
Problem is that he is only invoking noble principles against Venezuela, while endorsing other dictators, autocrats and murderers. Hypocrisy and double standards.

He simply wants you to suffer even more and turn your anger against Maduro.

Sorry, but you have no idea what you're talking about.  America is a county of social programs - fire, police, parks, schools, libraries, etc. etc. where society works together to provide something all can use.  Discussing adding another program like universal healthcare should not be a trigger for you to run around going "SOOOOCIAALYZZMMMM!!!! BADDDDD!!!!! VENEZUELAAAAAAZZZ!!!".  Democratic socialism is far different from what they have in Venezuela as well as it is their government that is the cause of most issues.

You will understand when random acts of highly organized sabotage, that no one can pinpoint the origin or perpetrators, starts happening to give the needed final push to a stressed population to initiate a civil war.

The objective is to create a situation so unbearable that even most of the supporters of Maduro will not be able to endure more.

The common people have always been disposable objects, to the point of physical elimination, when it comes to American foreign politics. I still remember the video of an American bomber during the Yugoslavia conflict, where he was ordered to annihilate a train with hundreds of civilian refuges. Officially it was argued it was a military train, but the US armed forces were forced to recognized they knew that only civilians were present, and it nothing else but punishment.

Would you accept disbanding social security for seniors, medicare for seniors? These are both HIGHLY popular social programs with the both the left and the right. They are social programs.

If you were going to point to other counties as bad examples, how about Australia. Compared to the USA, Australia is a socialist country. Australia has gone 27 years and counting without a recession. Unemployment benefits there are unlimited, it never runs out. Universal healthcare is available to everyone. College education is highly subsidized and is available to everyone no matter how poor, and if you were poor enough the government not only cover your tuition, they give you money to live on while you go to school. Currently Australia is running a trade surplus. I think Australia as a country full of social programs is doing okay for itself.

Politics opinions don't really help the TC.
Watching the news worldwide, some countries even monitor online

Thoughts police do exist in a way.
Speaking for civilians or artists.
And he is a civilian and an artist.

You should also mention that "socialist" health care is already available to over 18 million of veterans, on top of 59 million of seniors.

This means that at least 23.5% of the American population is already covered by the so called "socialist" health care.

BADDDDD!!!!! VENEZUELAAAAAAZZZ!!!".  Democratic socialism is far different from what they have in Venezuela as well as it is their government that is the cause of most issues.
I do know what I am talking about. Sean try paying 70% of tax on what your income is. That is what the New Socialist Dems want. They have even stated that amount. Comrade Bernie will need at least 70 % to pay for all your student loans, free college for future student ,free heath care for all including illegals. 70% may in truth be low for the Socialist Dems. Yes I forgot the New Green Deal. You will not be able to use anything but solar or wind power. Who will pay for this yo Sean..it is Socialism.

I don't know who mj007 is or where he/she lives, but I have noticed that it's usually people who live in the taker states and use our "socialist" programs the most who yell the loudest about "socialism." I rarely hear anything about fear of "socialism" from the giver states that pay the most in federal taxes and prop up the taker states...in fact, we're willing to pay a little more for the betterment of society, and that includes helping the "socialists" who are currently using up the tax dollars we're already donating to them but are simultaneously terribly afraid of so-called "socialism."

Texas...We have a great economy. Our unemployment is almost zero. The housing prices are going up because of all the California folks moving to Texas. Why move to Texas, We have jobs, no State income tax, cheap housing cost and we love and carry guns. The folks that are moving to Texas which is about 50,000 people a month love the fact they can buy a 4000 sq foot home under 300K. Try that in California.

No, none of that is fact.  You made the claim, you provide proof.  That's how an argument works.  For instance, if I say "Unicorns are real", I don't rely on you to confirm the statement.  It's my job to back it up.

What you did, was cobble together bits and pieces from here and there with some incorrect numbers and claim it as some vague party platform.  It isn't.

So, stop running around waving hands in the air crying out SOOOCCCIALZZYMMMMM!!!! - it just looks silly.

Jezz I hate to try to drag this topic away from politics and hate, but maybe we might discuss, how this could change IS and SS as well, as they are US companies? You know, make it about Microstock?

I feel sorry for the contributors who will be penalized for this, and wonder what will happen when things change back. What a mess.

On the other hand, the United States, not the President, has decided that ...The Maduro dictatorship continues to deprive the Venezuelan people of food and medicine, imprison the democratically elected opposition, and violently suppress freedom of speech.

Reminder: US President Barack Obama imposes more sanctions on Russia. President Barack Obama has said the US is moving to impose additional sanctions on individuals linked to Russia's annexation of Crimea. Obama imposed sanctions on North Korea. During the Obama administration there were other countries, Iran for one, that the government forbid, US companies from doing business.

Weren't there people here who had their SS accounts closed back then, and people who couldn't join the US agencies to sell stock?

Yes, I wondered this too, if Shutterstock was also closing accounts, or if it was just Adobe. I guess those in countries being sanctioned will only be able to work with istock (are they US or Canadian?)  and a couple others. Which in itself is punishment. :(

I've read a couple of different news reports where people were questioning if Adobe was being overly zealous in responding to the sanctions. Meaning, there could have been room for them to interpret the sanctions differently. Though sometimes it is better to be safe than sorry.

Socialism starts out with noble intentions, preying on the envy of the population( American Democrats) to let the government “level the playing field” with promises of equality and more government support. But, the quest for power (and corruption that always comes along with it), coupled with the impossibility of having a small number of people efficiently allocate resources, leads to the same outcome every time. Venezuela, Cuba, China case in point.

Canada has very good healthcare. I know because I experience it, and I haven't had to sell my home to pay for it. The only out of pocket expenses for three different surgeries has been parking.

Change "socialism" to "subsidy" or "bailout" or "corporate tax break" and see how quickly the those pesky anti-socialists change their tune...

You didn't ask. But, first one was approx 6 hours to wait after I reached the hospital. 2nd was 3 days, but I was in hospital. Third was outpatient and was less than 2 weeks. And again, parking was my only associated cost.

The Fraser Institute has been a Western Reformer think tank aimed at skewing opinions to the far right for over 40 years.

Thank you. It actually is the norm for required things. We have our issues, and wait times for things like herniated discs and stuff can be high depending on the province, but some studies show they are no worse than average in the US.

The thing is, I don't understand the mindset where you (meaning the US) actually prefer to pay more in insurance premiums and deductables than you would in a basic tax scheme like we do and other countries do.

Agree. It isn't a case of left or right in this case. It's authoritarianism. Here's a comparison with France, as that is another country that would be considered very left leaning by some Americans (though the rest of the world would mostly probably think of them as centrist at most):

Govt. Expenditure as % GDP France 41% Venezuela 40%
Amount of employees in Public Sector France 28% Venezuela 29%

Most highly developed first world nations have similar figures.

Secede. Seriously. Get by on $1 back for $1 paid in tax. New York gets back only 80˘, yet THAT'S where MicK Jagger went for his heart operation. My mother lay in the hallway on a gurney for 24 hours when she went to the emergency room...in New Jersey. She was seriously injured by subpar medical care...right here in the USA. Right here in the USA, where getting subpar medical care not only injures you but also bankrupts you. These are the countries with the best medical care:

Canada
Qatar
France
Norway
New Zealand
Germany
Hong Kong
The Netherlands
Switzerland
Singapore
Luxembourg
Japan
Sweden

The U.S. ranks #37.

Coincidentally enough, Texas ranks #37 in health care in the U.S. Maybe that's why Jagger didn't go to Texas for his operation.

It's a little difficult for me. I live in Caracas. If i live in Zulia or Tachira states, they are border states, i would be Immediate and reasonable option. I have a regular job that pay a crap salary per hours, i only can travel on weekends, if i travel to Cucuta Colombia or Brazil it should be on road by bus. Some airlines no longer provide services and those that are still tickets are very expensive. I use microstock in order to survive, getting some extra money, also  i have a relative in another country, who help me. Survive the economic difficulties in Venezuela. Inflation in Venezuela is the highest in the world. Venezuelans are fleeing to other countries, since it is difficult to live here.

Sanctions do not work by applying them to ordinary people. Look at Cuba, they are still communists and they have the Castros already 60 years in power. I don't know if all foreign companies are going to apply the same thing Adobe and Oracle did. Put everyone in the same bag.
Sometimes I think that ordinary people for governments are nothing more than disposable pieces, which they use to achieve their goals and then discard them.

From what I have read ordinary people are not the target of these sanctions, besides which your contract is with Adobe Canada, which has narrower targets and you are not supposed to be collateral damage. This is the link to the Canadian sanctions related to Venezuela https://www.international.gc.ca/world-monde/international_relations-relations_internationales/sanctions/venezuela.aspx?lang=eng (https://www.international.gc.ca/world-monde/international_relations-relations_internationales/sanctions/venezuela.aspx?lang=eng)
I would push Adobe Canada to give you a specific valid reason why they have disabled your account as the sanctions do not apply in your case.

I hope you find a way. I don't like Maduro but I don't find useful the US and European embargos that affect people like you. Knowing that the corrupt are a few.

I received this email from Adobe. And you're right. It's Adobe Canada, because I always see it in the payments that are made to me in Paypal. However, in the email it says they will delete my account on October 28 th, 2019.

Yes, and I can tell you that WAY MORE sick Americans with NO MONEY are browsing around the globe searching for it.    ;)

Literally none of what you said is correct.  Again, sorry.  It's like I'm reading one of the crazy emails my relatives send me.

I applaud Sean's maturity. I was about to try and give ELI5 explanation of how tax bands work etc. but you're absolutely correct Sean. It would be a waste of time. If someone wants to claim 70% taxation rates are on the cards for the US it's up to them to provide the evidence.

and as just one example of his misuse of 'facts', proposed higher rates would only kick in after the first million or so; rather than the socialist security system which protects the  1% which stops collecting the 6% FICA taxes on incomes over $132K

Sorry this happened to you @alexandersr and any other photographers/artists in your country. Did any other  US based agencies send you a letter as well? Like Shutterstock?

This type of bullying from the US president will only hurt the US citizens and US companies in the long run. Many countries and companies will look elsewhere for a more stable business partner and the US will lose it's financial dominance in the world because of actions like these.

I think 80% of Adobe's and shutterstock's content comes for Russia.(Anyone please let me know if this percent is wrong) I wonder if any future sanctions on Russia and it's citizens would cut the size of those agencies catalogs.

Sean I have been to all those places. Very high taxes, some have free health care but poor care. Many of those people with money come to America to get great heath care. Even Mic Jagger came to California to get his heart worked on. He is from the UK and they have really poor free health care. Not even sure if Mic would have been cover because of his old age in the UK.  Sean it seems you clearly like Socialism in America. That is your right. For me Socialism is just a pre- word for communism. Sean is the world going to come to an end in twelve years for our abuse of the pollution in the world. You don't even need to answer that, AOC says it will come to an end.....We all know AOC is so smart...

Secede.

Why didn't he get his operation in the UK if the care is better there and free?
Title: Re: Good bye Adobe Stock from Venezuela.

Because he has large sums of money and it's an isolated case involving one person... so it's a completely unfair comparison. The US, or even Texas, could have the best surgeon in the world, or the best hospital in the world, but we're going on averages for the majority of the population.

Surely you're not going to question how Alabama can come last in education if some individual got a record score on an exam?

The US is ranked 37th for healthcare by the World Health Organisation. The UK is ranked 18th. You'd think the UK would be worse if it's free... but obviously not.

He has a base in NY as well as other places, so maybe it was just more convenient at the time? Sorry, I have no more insight into Sir Mick's decision than anyone else here.

If a US celebrity endorsement is what you need/want  ::), Johnny Depp's daughter's life was saved by Great Ormond Street Hospital, an NHS children's hospital in London (as she was in the UK at the time) and he was delighted by her treatment there.

Why didn't he get his operation in the UK if the care is better there and free?

Most likely because he could get it done faster in America. Universal healthcare is a safety net, it isn't unlimited health care at the snap of a finger. As far as I know, universal healthcare in all countries that have it, is rationed. The government has a certain budget each year for all its spending, it then decided what percentage to allocate to health care, then the public servants decided how much money to allocate to each type of medical procedure. For people who are lucky enough to be well do to in those countries, most likely they can purchase supplemental private insurance that allows them to get services in the private sector. They pay for the privilege to get more and speedier service. No different than driving on the freeway and paying a toll to drive in the fast lane. Or paying for expensive parking in the busy downtown district. People can have what they want if they want to pay more for it.

Health care in the United States being tied to your employer is silly. It burdens the employer. It creates anxiety for the employees (if coverage is inadequate). There is all sorts of surprise billing post hospital visit. Most of the time people can not find out ahead of time what their procedure will cost because the system is designed to be foggy. The same procedure can cost up to 100x different from hospital to hospital within even the same city. The United States pays the most in health care per person of all countries, and yet in terms of health ranks poorly compared to other rich countries that spend 1/3-1/2 of the amount.

Case in point. My niece was having a baby in the UK. She had only the UK healthcare not the supplement insurance which you can purchase in the UK at a high cost. They would only allow her to use the UK birthing center for her baby deliver. She was 40 years of age and argued that she wanted to have the baby delivered in the UK hospital. Not allowed by UK folks for her. Sure enough she nearly lost her life and the baby's. Her blood pressure shot up to extremes during the birth at the birthing center.  They did rush her and the baby after the birth to a proper hospital and they had to stay a week in the hospital to get all corrected. All worked out but she and her  baby were very close to going to the next world. If she would of had the supplement insurance as she told me she would have been allowed to have her baby at the UK hospital. This was all in London. Best health care, I don't think so....

I had to look up 'birthing centre', as there are none near me, it's all maternity units. However, I remember there being a LOT of pressure by mothers in the past to have more midwife, less doctor, involvement in births.  Glad your niece and baby are doing well.

However, I have often read, for many years that maternity provision is poor in the US, and that seems still to be the case.

Main Maduro's political prisoner, Leopoldo Lopez, belongs to the Venezuelan party that belongs to the international socialist democratic parties.

One have to learn how to difference marxist socialism (today Putin supported and manipulated countries, like Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela) and Social Democracy (Spain, Norway, Sweden, Canada etc.)

If they just listen to radical right wing radio talk shows, Fox Bigots and Donald they will probably have a very distorted fake version of the reality. And I don't mind they enjoy living in their complete cluelessness, what's kills me is when they try, in their complete ignorance, to convince me to believe in the absurdity their minds have been illuminated for years.

Because he is a celebrity loaded with money and lives mostly in NY with his ballerina gf.

But on the other hand if US health care is so good and affordable...

How come that in 2017, more than 1.4 MILLION Americans sought health care in a variety of countries around the world ?
That makes 12,7% of all medical tourism in the world even though America has 4,3% of worlds population which makes US to triple the worlds average...and growing.

And why does medical tourism from US have 25% growth per year if things are going so well ?

Good healthcare is in America. No one said it is affordable. Poor folk in America can get good healthcare with Medicaid for free or little cost. The middle class has the biggest problem with the cost of health insurance. If they have no insurance no hospital will turn anyone away in the ER room. My son who is a doctor tells me his hospital only gets about 15% of people that pay their ER bill. I pay 1500 dollars a month for my healthcare for my wife and myself. That is with a 3500 deductible. If you want social medical care , go for it. Not for me....

That is the whole point of social aspect of health care. If its affordable only for handful of people there is not a purpose at at, and also on the other hand system is set that there is no way that everyone will be able to pay that much.

Health care should be build from grounds that everyone can afford it and then increase its quality for everyone and not that most people cannot afford it but Mick Jagger and company get a great one.

That makes zero sense to me. You would rather subsidize everyone who cannot afford insurance with high premiums, paying 18k a year before even paying a deductible, plus pay middlemen who basically tell you what you can afford to have done before being treated?

It just makes no sense to me at all why helping others for the greater good is such a bad thing in your country. You have roads and firemen and cops and subsidize farms, so what gives? It would cost so much less than what you guys have right now. You could solve so many issues with the money this would free up.

It's not my problem... I rely on a healthcare provider much higher in the rankings than the US. But it is a problem... so I'm happy to discuss it, just like I'm happy to discuss sanctions against Venezuela, even though I'm not from Venezuela.

Are you from Venezuela? If not, then (going by your rules) I'm assuming your response to the OP on the topic is: "It's your problem not ours!"?

And yes, the topic is sanctions against Venezuela, but this is a conversation and conversations don't always stay on topic... they twist and turn in different directions from one related subject to another. The US administration, the political structure of Venezuela... they're all in the same ballpark. It's not like we're talking about the must-have children's toy for the upcoming holiday season, or the price of fish in Egypt.

I cannot understand it, if the media says sanctions are against the government of Nicolas Maduro and they repeat it again and over again. This have been also said by Senator Marco Rubio and the same president of the United States of America Donald Trump. So why Adobe says that ordinary citizens and businesses are also sanctioned, this is Adobe over compliance for the US Executive Order 13885?
 I don't understand.

I saw this on a web page :

Adobe is causing an international stir today after the software giant announced that it would be “deactivating all accounts in Venezuela” due to a US Executive Order issued back in August. The news was quietly published in a support article uncovered by Bleeping Computer, but journalists and Venezuelan creatives alike are baffled by Adobe’s justification.

On their support page, Adobe cites US Executive Order 13885 as the reason for this move; however, as several publications have already pointed out, there doesn’t seem to be anything in the text of that document that prevents Adobe from doing business with individuals in Venezuela.

The Executive Order—which you can read in full below—has to do with “Blocking Property of the Government of Venezuela” and specifically defines “Government of Venezuela” in such a way that your average photographer or graphic artist should not be included in the imposed sanctions. Yet, Adobe’s support page claims that “the practical effect of [Executive Order 13885] is to prohibit almost all transactions and services between U.S. companies, entities, and individuals in Venezuela.”

Worse yet, Adobe says the Executive Order prevents them from offering refunds to users who have purchased the software, writing: “We are unable to issue refunds. Executive order 13884, orders the cessation of all activity with the entities including no sales, service, support, refunds, credits, etc.”

While the Right (mostly far-right) repeats the word "socialism" over and over again. Those same people don't realize(or maybe they do) they are contributing to the ongoing threat of increasing Fascism in the US. These are the same type of companies and people that supported Hitler. Either from fear, ignorance, or willful intent.

I cannot understand it, if the media says that the sanctions are against the government of Nicolas Maduro and they repeat it again and over again. This have been also said by Senator Marco Rubio and the same president of the United States of America Donald Trump. So why Adobe says that ordinary citizens and businesses are also sanctioned, I don't understand.

I am neither left nor right, I am an ordinary person trying to survive in a socialist country that is going through a strong economic crisis with the greatest hyperinflation in the world. All this result may be due to the mismanagement of the economy by the government of Nicolas Maduro and former President Hugo Chavez. And in recent times to external factors, which have worsened the economic situation.

Is there some way you can "move" your account to some other country that isn't Venezuela? I have no idea. If I were you, I'd be spending my time figuring out if it is possible to move my account to some other country to avoid the sanctions.

@alexandersr, don't waste your time on politics. You do not have anything to prove or explain to no-one. Instead, you can set some rules e.g. no women, old people or children just to have peace of mind and heart and start documenting whatever happens around you. Valuable and unique pieces of work that you can offer for licensing when this story come to an end. If not previously as live feed from your country. Adobe might cut strings but e.g. news agencies need material to show the news. Best wishes and stay safe.

Well, given the latest information (honest facts, not "fake news") coming out of Washington these days, it's certain he will be impeached in the House.

Unfortunately, there's no guarantee he'll be convicted in the Senate, because a bunch of senators (of both genders and parties) would have to grow cojones that they haven't yet shown themselves to have in order for that to happen.

Still, he most certainly can (and I believe will) be tossed out on his ear by the non-MAGAt 60% majority of American voters on November 3, 2020.

And then the world will need to hang on tight until January 20, 2021, 'cause only the good lord knows what our crazy, corrupt, would-be dictator might do in the interval between his loss at the polls and his inevitable post-presidency corruption trials.

There's only 1 way impeachment can succeed:  around 20 Republican Senators in 'swing' states get together and decide they'd rather have someone other than Trump on the Republican ticket in 2020.  They could 'reluctantly' vote to convict him and have a fig leaf of cover.

It could happen. I wouldn't have believed that even a month ago, but after Trump stepped in it "bigly" in Syria and is now even more blatantly thumbing his nose at the American Constitution by violating the emoluments clause at next year's G7…

At this point in history, there's literally no telling what could happen.

Secede.

Why didn't he get his operation in the UK if the care is better there and free?

The care is terrible with long waiting times if you go for the 'free' option.

Also, it isn't free for people who actually work as a contribution is deducted from income.

Universal health care, while imperfect, is generally a good idea for for low income and middle income people. In the United States, the richest 5% of tax payers pay 56% of federal income tax (https://www.dailysignal.com/2015/04/15/how-much-do-the-top-1-percent-pay-of-all-taxes/ (https://www.dailysignal.com/2015/04/15/how-much-do-the-top-1-percent-pay-of-all-taxes/)). Because taxation is progressive, most people who are low-middle income are generally beneficiaries of governmental services from the taxes of the ultra wealthy, be the services in the form of government programs, or emergency services, the military, teachers, or other public services, etc.

Even putting aside the talk of universal health care, almost all people in the United States are net beneficiaries of taxes from the ultra wealthy, all because the ultra wealthy pay the majority of taxes.

Back to universal health care, the evidence seems to suggest that government run health care is cheaper than private health care. On a per capita basis, all industrialized countries spend significantly less than the United States, and yet many countries' citizens live longer and are healthier than Americans. The universal health care I'm most familiar with is Australia's. The Australian government buys drugs in bulk from American companies. Because of the government's size, they get to negotiate drug prices down for the Australian tax payers. Whereas in the United States, Medicare is prohibited by law to negotiate drug prices. The result is that drug prices run rampant in the United States.

Do your own research on this . Doctors in America make on average three to four times more than most Doctors in the world. In the UK an average Family Doctor makes  around 70K per year. In the US the same doctor makes around 180K. A lot of the really good doctors of the world come to the US and leave their beloved countries for the money. In Taiwan a Family Doctor makes maybe 45K a year. To make up his or her money they see 10 times the numbers a week than US doctors. Just to make money. Most US doctors work five days a week. In Taiwan six to seven days is a normal week . Yes American medicine may be screwed up but I will take it over an overworked, underpaid world doctor any day. I guess world doctors are like stock photographer , it is all about numbers.

You said what you pay per year in premiums and deductibles. Why do you hate spending less money for the same or better service? What if one of your kids has an illness that isn't covered by insurance?

Canadian docs are world class and many of them are not in it solely for the money, so they stay here. I also won't lose my home to pay for a minor car accident.

Your medicine isn't screwed up, it's your priorities.

There is no correlation to doctor's pay and the health of the country's population.

The United States has the 3rd highest overall physician salary.
https://journal.practicelink.com/vital-stats/physician-compensation-worldwide/ (https://journal.practicelink.com/vital-stats/physician-compensation-worldwide/)

The world health organization ranks America's medical system as 37th place in the world.
http://thepatientfactor.com/canadian-health-care-information/world-health-organizations-ranking-of-the-worlds-health-systems/ (http://thepatientfactor.com/canadian-health-care-information/world-health-organizations-ranking-of-the-worlds-health-systems/)

The figures seems to suggest the United States is spending a lot of money on health care and getting lesser results than other countries who spend far less.

I don't think Taiwan is a fair comparison to the United States. Their annual GDP per capita is $25k USD. I'm not sure at that kind of earning power they would be considered first world.
https://www.ceicdata.com/en/indicator/taiwan/gdp-per-capita (https://www.ceicdata.com/en/indicator/taiwan/gdp-per-capita)
And from what I've read online, long hours at white collar jobs in Taiwan is standard. 60hrs per week is not unusual. Similar to long hours at white collar jobs in New York City is often standard. I worked and lived in NYC for several years, a lot of people, including myself had long hours at their desk job. It was difficult to make social plans with friends because you never knew if you could actually leave work in time.

Doctors in most rich countries start their careers with little to no student debt, while in the United States they start out on average of $130k in student debt.

There is also the issue of doctor's pay linked to the number of services they provide. The more test they run on you, the more they bill you. There is an incentive in the United States that drives up health care that don't necessarily exist under a universal health care system. In the United States there is also what people call defensive medicine, where the fear of lawsuits drive doctors to perform tests they know are most likely unnecessarily to cover all their bases, and the consequences is that it drives overall medical spending up.

"The top 5% of households, three quarters of whom had two income earners, had incomes of $166,200 or higher."

That means in a lot of those cases, each person in a two-earner family earned an average of $83,100 per year. Not exactly ultra-wealthy.

However, there are a few dozen families who ARE ultra-wealthy, and this year their tax rate fell BELOW that of the middle class for the first time.

It's sick that the ultra-wealthy have bought our government representatives and had laws passed that give them ever greater wealth while simultaneously having laws passed that give them lower tax rates.

They game the system so that money is extracted from the lower classes and passed up to them....whether it's through stagnant wages that give them unprecedented corporate earnings and bonuses, predatory lending practices that keep the poor in debt and paying exorbitant interest rates, creating a gig economy that keeps workers from getting benefits, and any other number of nefarious means.

Why didn't he get his operation in the UK if the care is better there and free?

Because he's a celebrity and didn't want to have an operation in an NHS hospital being bothered by fans all the time and money's no object? Because he lives part time in NYC and wanted to be close to his girlfriend who's house is there (I think his smallest child may even live there)? Because money, location and the overall health care in a country are irrelevant to someone that wealthy and he could have got the best service anywhere he feels like?

Honestly that anecdotes about rich people would get dragged in to discussions like this as "evidence" is just embarrassing. The WHO will give you a good idea of how good a countries healthcare is for an average citizen.

Honestly these talking points are just propaganda by ultra wealthy elites.

People need to understand that what the top 10% or 5% pay is irrelevant. Pretty much anyone outside the top 1%-0.5% is one cancer diagnosis or other negative life event from the street (in the US).

The top 1% have 40% of the wealth in the US.

The difference between one million dollars and 1 billion dollars is approximately 1 billion dollars. You can get paid $2000 per hour for 40 hours per week for TWO HUNDRED YEARS and still not have a billion dollars.

It's infuriating that people will throw out stats like most millionaires are first generation (not that I've actually seen even that stat convincingly backed up) when millionaires are a distraction. The people out there paying no tax and sponging up government payouts aren't the poor, or even the top 10-20%. They are the top tiny fraction of 1% who own almost everything and fund think tanks, politicians etc. to keep us all fighting each other and looking the other way.

LOL, yeah, that's my point. No one ever "earns" a billion dollars. No ones labour or brain or idea is worth that much more than the average worker. That billionaires even exist is a policy failure and a democracy can't function properly when a handful of people have that disproportionate a level of power.

You aren't accounting for inflation and wise investing. LOL  ;D

That would also explain more millionaires than in the past. But heck why ruin a sympathy thread about someone losing their income, when the rest of us can go off on politics, the rich, the health care system and more politically biased rants?  ::)

Oh I hate to be a distraction and go back on topic, but I hope that AS simply deactivates accounts until this blows over and then restores them. Years of uploads and work, just wiped would be sad as well.

And I know no one wants to hear this, but if AS is a US company and they are complying, why aren't SS and IS, or any of the rest. Not asking for that, just wondering why?

If politicians confiscated the wealth of ALL billionaires in the world, it would not be enough money for the US budget for one year. Pretty much the same for the ones worth 100 million dollars.
So, they (the politicians) say they tax the red and the blue, when in fact they just buy votes from the purple and really tax the green, because that’s where the money is.

Anyway I hope they just disable, until they figure it out, and restore everything soon. Bad enough to lose earnings, but having everything removed would be really bad.

I asked the Adobe Stock Latin America and they told me that they would delete all the content from the Venezuela accounts. So, it's very sad.

Really sad. All this work to be gone.  Hope that you have a backup of all data that you entered in content?

Yes, i have a backup.

I'm glad to hear that, Alexander.

And yes, George is right. Your situation is sad.

Unfortunately, lots of things are sad in this world today. I'm 73 years old (for context… born in the USA the year after WWII ended), and for many reasons I consider this the most depressing time period I've lived through.

I'm especially sorry that problems you did nothing to cause and can do nothing to fix have hit you so directly. You have my sincerest sympathy.

Thank you, very much!  and yes, the world today it's very difficult to live, i don't know how it's in countries called first world, but in third world countries with hyperinflation like Venezuela it's like hell. Several countries in South America now have very strong social conflicts, Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina, Venezuela and others. Communism, socialism, capitalism and neoliberalism, I think they are models that no longer work.

Capitalism seems to be working great in America. Our unemployment has never been lower, saving funds have never been higher. You are correct Communism, socialism,  and neoliberalism don't work. I am not even sure what neoliberalism is but I bet it is a failure also. America is not perfect by any means but Capitalism dose work, you work hard, study hard and you keep your wealth.

Mostly I'd agree, but we can remember, hiding in the cellar or some school tunnel, in fear of someone dropping a Nuke on us. Called an Atom Bomb back then. We also played in open fields, didn't worry about predators, mass shootings (but there actually were some) , Aids, killer drugs and massive addiction to prescription drugs. Oh yeah we have natural foods now, free range, vegetarian, vegan, or organic, and people still die about the same as we used to.

It's an atom bomb, duck and cover. Anytime, any day...  https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=50s+drop+and+cover&view=detail&mid=18CCD9E839265D72F5E218CCD9E839265D72F5E2&FORM=VIRE (https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=50s+drop+and+cover&view=detail&mid=18CCD9E839265D72F5E218CCD9E839265D72F5E2&FORM=VIRE)

By the way, if the nightly news isn't enough, times have changed, we might not have been The Cleavers or Ozzie and Harriet, but wow NOW? Maybe it's the news? Nope, if it bleeds it leads came in with TV.

And in 50 years, people who are in their 20s now, will be saying, "yeah it sure was good when I was younger."  ;D Of course they won't have Social Security anymore?

“The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.”

― Socrates

I'm happy to have grown up in the simple innocent times of the 50s (dial phones and B&W TV, that's simple?) and partied with the love children of the 60s, Army in the 70s when we weren't actually at war, but I sure love cell phones, computers and the digital cameras. I guess along with the gains there's always some loss as well.

Yes, i have a backup.

See, a little good news in all this doom and gloom?

Capitalism seems to be working great in America.

Not really.  Income inequality has never been greater, for profit healthcare has skyrocketed costs, and people have to work three jobs just to afford housing and food.  Something is broken.

and America's version of capitalism results in CEO / worker compensation that's obscenely greater than any other country; huge tax breaks for the wealthy that result in none of the positive effects predicted; oil/gas company's that pollute w/o any responsibility, etc, etc

our system is more aptly named corporate socialism - large companies keep all their profits, often paying low or no taxes; but are welfare recipients when they lose money ("too big to fail")

Intagible products happened.

From banks manipulating their "products" to this new "customer / user data is gold" era.

We are getting short in people working physical. Most of us do produce digital products. But we cannot eat a file....

So Adobe has reversed itself for subscriptions to its products

You should ask if this means they will let you keep selling

Wow! Good catch, Jo Ann.

I'm sure we all hope this will solve Alexander's problem… assuming Adobe didn't delete his port before reversing course in Venezuela.

Alexander, please do follow Jo Ann's suggestion and get back to us with the results. GOOD LUCK!!!

Not so gutsy, I only make enough to feed a cat, but the cats were fighting to see which one got fed.
Response was "We are sorry to lose you as a contributor.  Adobe as a global company is subject to the recent Presidential Executive Order in the United States." Mat
Which just goes to prove that they cannot read.

Well we are not out the woods yet, we still have Maduro and Trump and a global Adobe who go by the laws of Trumpton, the Canadian setup must just be there to avoid paying taxes there.

Yes, I and also bet that if you had any, I mean even basic idea about main social and financial elements and fundamental branches of the system you are supporting you would most certainly pull out that bet before even placing it and claimed that it works cause it basically represents all that you stand for in your posts.

If one who "is sure" what things are, forgets about sad aspect of all this, I have to admit its pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good humor.
