How ? ;) Do you have any clues - less better / more better?
How do the first 7 keywords influence on the search results? Do categories matter, maybe even with some combination of keywords?
Or at last, might the reviewers give some kind of rank to newly accepted images, in orded to make the relevence search starting form the best (in reviewers personal opinion of course)?

I ask because I am really confused. Most of my income on Fotolia is produced by about 5 photos, which are of course high in the search.

You can probably answer your own question by simply examining the keywords of good selling images.

When a new image is approved it is generally placed towards the top of the search order and will slowly trickle backwards over time unless it gathers sufficient sales to justify a high placing.

Not really. There is no rule, in one image the keywords are not even put in the order of siginficance.... and it has got already over 200 dl for 6 months....

Well there you go then __ you have just answered your question. 'There is no rule' that I can detect either. It seems to me that sort order is 95% down to sales/month but that is just speculation on my part.

I keyword in photoshop, keeps the keywords in order i put them and have the seven most important in front.
This because the (ahum) emphasis on the search results should be better.

I make sure that in title, description and first seven keywords the same keyword appears at least one time, preferably two times.  Some sites include title and description as criteria for search results.  This should also result in better placement in search.

However i doubt fotolia's search engine and relevance works like that. Looking at the relevance on fotolia a lot of images are not placed by relevance that should be.  My guess is that inspectors give some kind of rating that influences the placement/relevance.

As for the seven first keywords, this no longer counts according to my experience.  Searching for my images based on the first seven keywords reveals a lot of images in front of mine where the keyword is not even in the first seven order.  So as to keywording for fotolia.. i'm in the dark.

Normal, you can't know the first seven keywords of someone else picture, the keywords are sorted alphabetically...

The keywords are highlighted/sized by order...

I may be wrong, but once I had an explanation that the sizes reflect the frequency of a search using that keyword.  But you may be right, I checked some of my images and the keywords in bold are almost the same of my 9-10 first keywords, although sometimes the first keyword is not in bold letters.

Adelaide

I think I saw a pattern.  First keyword in bigger font size, next 9-11 keywords in bold. Check your own images. What do you think?
