Do the fotolia free images thing still exist.  I can't really seem to find much about it on their site.

And if it DOES exist, do you have any images there?

And if you do, do those sales count towards your fotolia rank?

The reason I ask is because if they DO count towards your fotolia rank, perhaps it would be worth it to have some images there to give yourself a little boost towards the higher rankings where you can price your images at 2x the price.  I am sitting waiting paitiently for the day when I can double my income at fotolia but it is taking a long time.  Would it be worthwhile economically to offer images in the free section?

Are you absolutely sure that the rank you're referring to has a major effect on the search engine? I viewed it more as an indication as to how much you're selling compared to others rather than how it effects your search engine placement.
Mind you I don't do too much checking on my own search engine placement, I like to think "if it's good they'll find it" but that might explain why I'm only ranked around 240th at the moment  :D

Don't know about the free images question but it's an interesting one, you need Andres or Christine to answer that one they probably know more about the site than most.

I'm trying to find this info in the USA site.  In the Brazilian site I read you can submit unnapproved images to the free section and can withdraw them later if you want.  Also, in case they reach 300 dlds, they can be included in the main portfolio (300?  It could be less...).  And it seems there are some conditions in which you can even make money with them.

It didn't say anything about the free dlds counting in our total dlds (RT: more dlds, higher ranks, larger commission -> that would be nice!)

Adelaide

Ah, found it, but it seems a feature in disuse:

In addition, the photo must not have been uploaded after September 1st 2005.

It would be nice if they set the bar at gold instead of emerald. I wonder what percentage of the contributers make it to emerald?  Not very many I'm guessing.

They could tell how many there are, besides showing the latest ones here:

So thats just the latest people to make it? not how many have made it?
Using a system like dreamstime would be a much better way to evaluate pricing on images. X amount of downloads on an image and you can jack the price up. Its a long haul for new contributers with small ports regarless of quality.

Just to expand on what madelaide responsed.

No, I don't mean the 7 days / overall fotolia rank think.  I mean the ranking found on this page
http://www.fotolia.com/Info/Ranking
And no, I don't think either one has anything, or much to do with your image placement.

My point was, once you reach emerald (10,000 sales) you can raise the prices of your images to 2x the regular price... which means 2x the earnings.

info here

about half way down.

Ah I see, in that case it would be good to know whether the free images count, I've never ticked the free images box myself as generally speaking if one gets rejected on FT it's probably been accepted somewhere else, but as you know that can be said for any microstock site.

My portfolio has been passed to the techie guys to have it all "reindexed" as none of the pre V2 files were showing up, I'm selling quite well on FT so hopefully once that's done I'll shoot up to Emerald in no time  :D

Free sales do not count towards the Bronze / Silver / Gold / Emerald ranking - I asked Christine

Defintely not. If they did, I would be Gold, if not Emerald. I stopped doing free images a long time ago. Images that weren't good enough to sell would get thousands of downloads.

ok.. thanks for your guys' info.  That is helpful and makes the decision easy...no free images from me  :)

Just have to wait another year for emerald to raise my prices :(
