Post by: PenelopeB on June 01, 2007, 18:44
.....sorry.... but....

EVERY TIME I LOG ONTO FOTOLIA, I HAVE TO WAIT AND WAIT AND WAIT FOR ALL THOSE DAMNED PICTURES TO LOAD ON THE FRONT PAGE!!!!  flip, a new one, flip a new one, EERRRRGGGG!

What a flipping waste of MY time. It makes me want to remove my gallery and never, ever go back.

ok, I'm done. (but I hope someone from fotolia reads this and takes note)

Umm... you're a bit out of date Pen - FT has already announced that it will be updating its servers this weekend to coincide with the launch of V.2.

BUt the upgrade might not solve this issue.  The issue may be them being a bit to fancy and struggling to get down P bandwidth.

I think a lot of companies forget that everyone doesn't have broadband (or broadband which doesn't really cut the mustard).  I amm fine in the UK, but plan to return to NZ shortly where broadband is little more than double dial up speeds (ie. pathetic).

I dunno CJ, I'm in the middle of nowhere, and I get 1Mb/s down at time, and a solild 256k up.. It's not startling but OK.  I most cities you can get symetrical DSL from Telstra now, which is 2Mb/s each way I believe..

What part of NZ you coming back to?

That isn't too bad.  I had heard worse stories - which supplier are you with?  What is your monthly cap - My brother exceeded his cap and was put down to dial up speeds.

It has probably improved since last time I did a survey.

I think the price will be the difference.  Over here you can get FREE 8mb/s broadband (if buy associated products - land line or cell phone) or for £25 (NZ$65), you get your telephone (with free national calls), UNLIMITED 8 mb/s broadband and pay TV (like sky). You pay that for Sky alone dont you?  And a simple phone is $40?

Oh well, at least the grass is greener (literally) and the lifestyle will be alot better than over here.

Will probably be returning to Auckland (better jobs for me) but gf is still pushing for ChCh.  Your just out of ChCh arn't you?

What I have to say? I make my all microstock business with a 56 kb/s dial-up connection...

50k's south of CHCH, just out of Leeston...

10Gb Cap, $39/month...  With Xtra.  I rarely get close to the 10Gb, but then I don't surf all that much...

8Mb/s?  That'd be nice.  Is that right across the UK, or just in the major centers?

Telecom had been forced to un-bundle the local loop, which means that other providers now have access to the 'last mile' copper cables...  it's opened up a bit of competition, and telstra have laid their own fibre and last mile in some areas.

CHCH is a much nicer city to live in, but there's more oppertunity for employment in AKL if you can put up with the traffic issues, and cost of living up there...  Although if you're used to London traffic you'll wonder where all the cars have gone! :)

I got annoyed just checking my gmail last time I was home (my parents can only get 36kb).

Chellyar - Cars?? what are they? are they the small metal boxes that hold up the public transport in London.  I grew up in Auckland so am use to it - cant wait to own a car again in fact.  We might end up in the SI after a few years (lifestyle reasons) but it would be too much of a culture shock for me.

$39 isn't that much and from what I have heard, it can only come down with unbunddling/separation.

8mb for all of UK I think but it depends on your line.  I only get 5mb dl and about 600kb up as we live in an old converted house.  16mb is meant to be out soon as they next round of exchange upgrades happens.

P - sorry for hijacking your thread.

Even though FT is now noticeably faster than it was, it's still a bit on the slow side.

An easy workaround for me is to use it at night when there is minimal traffic on the site. I got into a groove with a reviewer last night and entered in almost 50 images as they were approved ... with zero rejections!

It's a worldwide site with a big europe focus.  Maybe the US site runs of different servers which makes it quicker when not many from the US are on it?

I'm in a GMT-8 time zone, so it's pretty easy for me to use it when hardly anyone from Europe and the eastern part of North America aren't (i.e. 1am or 2am east coast time, 7am or 8am european time).
