Photoshop World marks the launch of Fotolia University

NEW YORK, NY, October 2, 2009 – From the company that was first to bring an extended licensing option to the microstock world, comes the launch of Fotolia University. This interactive, hands-on traveling institution kicked off with acclaimed photographer Jack Hollingsworth at Photoshop World in Las Vegas. Fotolia University, an education program for microstock contributing artists, is the only one of its kind and will appear at various locations throughout the United States of America. Budding and veteran stock photographers will have the opportunity to broaden and brush-up their portfolios with training sessions hosted by leading industry contributors.

“Fotolia University provides artists of the microstock community with an exclusive opportunity to take their digital photographic skills to the next level,” says Oleg Tscheltzoff, CEO of Fotolia, LLC. “The demands in the industry are ever-changing and evolving. Fotolia provides contributors with the tools to stay on top of their game and to increase their earning potential.”

Open to all Fotolia members, Fotolia University seminars range from talent coordination, editing images, basic photography and advanced photography techniques, to asset and project management. Course fees vary based on the event, and location details will be announced as they become available. For more information, visit www.fotolia.com

"From the company that was first to bring an extended licensing option to the microstock world, comes the launch of Fotolia University."

December 2005:  Here's where Bruce announces ELs coming to iStock: http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=27732&messageid=375641 (http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=27732&messageid=375641)
January 2006: Fotolia announces ELs: http://www.designtaxi.com/news.php?id=1736 (http://www.designtaxi.com/news.php?id=1736)

So, I wouldn't say they were the "first".

I think their meaning was, they were the first to think of the idea, but IS just happened to announce it before them.  ;D

Reading the press releases, you probably are right. But I do wonder if they "borrowed" the idea from IS, and just were able to implement it very quickly.

(Gee, I had no idea I joined FT only about 6 months after they began. If only I knew then what I know now ....)

Actually, IS offered ELs years before, although the process wasn't automatic, it was through a call to the commercial department.

At least, this time FT don't suggest that they invented the microstock idea...

Nice 'blast from the past' Sean! That wasn't actually IS announcing EL's as a new thing, just that the process was becoming automated like regular RF sales. We were selling EL's before that but it involved Support emailing the contributor for their consent, etc.

It is quite disturbing the way FT cheerfully re-write the history books in their favour everytime they make an announcement. It wouldn't surprise me if they claim to have discovered penicillin and television in their next news release.
