I've finally taken the time to get Fotolia in order! Something 150 images I did today! I would have never had the mental endurance were it not for the constant bombardment of 80's music I have blasting in my studio.

That that I have this thing in action, is there other things I can do to get stuff working -- like organizing images for customers, making them related, etc? For instance, Istock lets you make lightboxes and link to them via banners, etc.
Anyone have any advice on things like this for Fotolia, if anything can be done?

I take it you are aware the search engine at Fotolia only picks up on the first seven keywords on your files, so make sure you prioritise them.

I knew it takes them by priority, but I had no idea only the first seven are relevant! I checked, and images generally have more than seven keywords on fotolia...are the rest after the first seven just for decoration?

The maximum number of keywords is 50. Although all 50 keywords are used by the search engine, only the first 7 are used to determine 'Relevance'.

To make things easy on myself, I edit IPTC with the following workflow:
1. Place the most relevant 7 keywords first to account for Fotolia
2. Make sure there are 7 or more words in the description to account for BigStockPhoto.
3. Try to stick to single keywords, rather than phrases, whenever possible. Multiple sites treat each word in the phrase as a single keyword.
It's second nature now. When I submit to the several sites I am on, everything is ready to go.

I see you submit to StockXpert. They say to submit "up to 20" keywords. Do you know whether they just take the first 20 if you use the IPTC route? I recollect posting a query on the Forum about what happens when you exceed the "maximum" but didn't get a specific response. (I can't find the post now!)

I don't know exactly how it works with the 20 keywords, but I get good round-about sales nonetheless.

Another question, since I can still be considered a fotolia newbie and get away with stupid stuff like this...
How long does it take for the search engine to get images available accross the board?
As far as your best selling fotolia images, how long was it before they saw their first download?

I still don't know accurately, but I think that you get better in the search higher your overall ranking is. So have a look at your rank and that can give you an idea about how your file get up. But that not want to say you will don't have some. More images you have more visibility you will have.
I have about 140 pictures there and my rank is in the 5000. So I think I'm condamned to sit behind everybody :). I think that my only way to make going up in this rank is to gain visibility, only my 2 cents ;)
