Anyone else played around with the order of keywords since V2?

I've just discovered that for at least one of my images searching on keywords at the 'bottom' of the list does not find the image at all, but searching for ones at the top does..

I'm not worried if the images are way down the list, but the two I looked at don't show up at all..

Is this how it has always been?

I had that issue as well.  When I contacted support, they indicated that only the top seven keywords are being read at this time.  The message indicated that all keywords would be read in the future; however, I am still having difficulties with ANY keywords being read on some of my images.

To be fair, when I pointed out specific examples to support, those specific keywords were fixed within a few days.

Only the top 7?  Dang, that'll explain quite a few things!

They obviously forgot to put that in the fine-print.

Hmmmmmm,

I see what you mean...  Some don't come back with a result at all..

Haven't got time to play right now, but I might see if I can figure out what's going on, and then drop their support a note.

At least that explains the weird differences in what sells on FL and the other sites, their search is not broke, but it's definitely odd.

Cheers, Me.

Nope, it's not odd Chellyar.  This is a rare instance when I have to defend FT (!) because they have always had a note on the upload page advising contributors that they should rearrange keywords in order of priority - that's why there is that sort order keyword box with 'up', 'down', 'send to top' etc.

What IS mildly unacceptable is that they have to have this system at all I suppose; I imagine under V1 they simply didn't have enough processing power to be able to cope with more than the top seven keywords for each picture; okay, they might have promised that this will change under V2, but given how long anything takes under V2, these changes could be years away.

It IS a pain having to rearrange keywords on each and every picture upload for FT, but that is their system.  I wish Bridge wouldn't automatically sort keywords into alphabetical, otherwise life would be easier.

Just one of those strange old things I'm afraid.

I use Exifer and Irfanview, and none of them resort keywords, so adding them in order of importance was never an issue to me.

I didn't know however that FT reads ONLY the 7 first keywords.  I understood it was a matter of relevance only, those on the first seven positions would be worth more.

Adelaide

Hurro,

When I said "Some don't come back with a result at all."  I meant some of the top seven keywords don't come back at all:

I looked at a couple of my images, put the top three keywords into the search, and the images are not in the results.

I don't have a problem with the keyword sorting, I knew that was there and chose not to use it, on the basis that I'm not that 'serious' about Microstock, and I've got a small portfolio etc...  (ie: I'm Lazy)

I'm a bit annoyed to find out about the seven keywords thing, but again not that much of a big deal as in most cases some usable keywords would be in the top 7 for most of my stuff, although not necesarily the most relevent ones..

Not finding the image at all, on the top three keywords for that image is annoying.

I've also found that keywords with spaces might be an issue.  It appears that FL accepts multi-word keywords, but there isn't a way to search for them.  (I may be wrong, havn't had time to read/experiement with this).

I'll spend some time on it later in the week and post back to this thread on what exactly I find.  And how I will 'fix' my images there.

This does explain why some folks with similar sized/quality portfolios on FL report much higher sales than me...

Cheers, Me.
