Title: Thinking of joining Fotolia
Post by: BlueMoonPics on July 23, 2016, 15:48
Hi All.  I've been with iS since about 2008 and last week I deleted all my images and asked to drop exclusivity.  Sales dropping dramatically there for me and new rules prompted me to try some new places.
I'm thinking of joining Fotolia but don't know anything about the company.
I know these answers can vary from person to person but...
Compared to iS, how are sales in Fotolia?  Any advice like things to avoid or things to do at Fotolia ?
Thanks for reading.

For us, our sales picked up after Adobe bought Fotolia.

I'd say Fotolia review is pretty fair, higher and not as random as SS. Less downloads then at my indie IS account but a lot of nice thick commissions so more or less the same in $. If you're done with IS then SS and FT are your best bet ;)

For us, our sales picked up after Adobe bought Fotolia.  And the only quirk is Fotolia seems to be total random on what the accept and the reasons why they reject others.   And wish they (all the companies) own up and give their reviewers an option for "no right for us".   As a bench mark, we have around a 50% acceptance with Big Stock but only about 30% with Fotolia.

it's good to hear options to ss and the views of you from fotolia.
i cannot speak for fotolia as i was only with them a long time ago when they first started
... but they have already been more strict with approval even then.

i only closed my account with fotolia after i joined ss and i was making regular payouts at ss.

now, with the situation getting ridiculous at ss, i welcome the success of alamy or fotolia
as they are the only ones in the big 4 .

adobe buying fotolia is a big plus too for me to rethink my position of staying at ss,
but as always my big question is i like to see fotolia and alamy show they can produce sales
as regular as ss used to give me.

Sales at FT are feeble - mainly 29c a piece but hey - given the general state of affairs, every little helps.
I guess.....

hello,
when you say ft , does that include adobe???
how is this adobe site relating to fotolia??? are sales you quoted as one or is adobe sales
an enitrely different kettle of fish?
i am asking because i like , so many ss watchers i am sure, looking to see if adobe
has made a better offering to contributors to correct their dollar thing
so as to get back some of their contributors who left.

thanks in advance.

If you've already quit iS then there's no need thinking about it or asking questions - just upload your images to the other agencies and you will find out quickly enough.  As others have said, SS and FT are probably where you will get the best returns.  The others are hardly worth bothering about any more, but might be worth it for the small amount of trouble to upload - you will have to decide that for yourself.  I think the Alamy poll results don't reflect most people's experience.  Good luck!

I say Adobe/ft is well worth it and especially with large portfolios. Adobe is a solid name in this business and buyers are aware of that. Since according to many SS have turned their back on established suppliers you really should give it a go. Nothing to lose.

Adobe and FT are one and the same as far as I can see. One owns the other. Nothing more.
Since Adobe took over nothing significant seems to have changed.
My own sales numbers are down in recent months but that may or may not be connected: FT was never a great performer; it is July; the market is oversaturated.
I still mainly get 29c subs so no change there. $1.65 counts as a 'good' sale. Over $2 commissions are as rare as hens' teeth.
I got one sale - once - for $18.  ::)

Update for info:
I'm silver level with 25% royalty and 'just' 6000 more downloads to reach the next level (31%)!
Starting royalties are 20%.

All of the big 4 have different buyers. You should have left everything on IS and just started uploading to Alamy, SS and FT. You didn't have to delete all to drop exclusive, and you did all the work of uploading. Reviews for subject will get you rejections on FT. SS is very picky about sharpness and shadows. Deleting all seems hasty.
