A couple weeks ago, I received an official looking email from Adobe, saying my 1099 was incorrect and I needed to go to a website to download an updated one. The URL was... less than official looking, so I emailed Adobe directly. The responded to say it was a real email.
Although the site URL still made me uncomfortable, I visited and put in my info. Apparently I made $30 less than they originally thought.
That's what I want to do, go through refiling my taxes over $30 in less income. I think I'll pass! Hopefully the IRS doesn't mind keeping more than they had originally planned...

I don't know if it matters for your numbers, but Adobe reports the 1099 on earnings for the year, not the money you collected during the calendar year. You could collect nothing and you would still get a 1099 for what you "earned".
If you are reporting actual income, everything will eventually balance out over the years. You just need to use the same numbers, actual income collected, for all years and not switch back and forth.
I don't think the IRS cares about $30 difference and has bigger things to be concerned with. I can tell you how to nearly 100% be certain of being audited, but I don't have a clue how someone can avoid being audited. Computers decide those things.

LOL yeah maybe? No it's easier than that. Just repeat the expense numbers from the previous year, exactly down to the penny. The computer will kick that one into the investigate pile in an instant. List a few of your deductions, expenses and other numbers, down as the same.
Automatic self created request for an audit.
