Title: do frame rates matter for video?
Post by: yuriy on October 31, 2024, 11:01
Do customers who are creating 24fps videos (for example) only want 24 fps clips?  Would they use a 30fps clip and accept the dropped frames?  I tend to shoot in 30 or 60 but wondering if I should also include some 24 fps clips.

24 is "standard", but 30 fps makes things look a little nicer/smoother. Unless you are doing something for a speciality agency, perhaps stick with the standard 24fps, because usually that is what customers are expecting.

In a word, no.  It doesn't.  Subject matter is the most important.

But if you're concerned, shoot 120 and let the buyer decide their own frame rate, as 120 is divisible by 24, 30, and 60.

Hmm, sounds good but mostly accepted frame rate is 60fps or I am wrong?

You're probably right.  I think P5 and SS take 120fps.  I really only have one shot uploaded at 120fps (https://www.pond5.com/stock-footage/item/288505153-profile-view-manhattan-subway-car-120fps?ref=odesigns) at the moment.

thanks for the responses.  it makes sense that the quality of the shot and subject matter are more important.  i may conduct a small test by shooting similar shots in different frame rates just to see if there's a difference at some point.

Videos need to be uploaded with fps only 29.97. This is the fps of the American market, and it is the American market that buys the most videos. From 29.97, the buyer can make both 25 and 24.
