Frohmann is leaving FT to man the new European arm of IS. Kelly Thompson is now the COO of IS.

"iStockphoto is the world's leading royalty-free stock destination, with an image downloaded every 1.3 seconds."
Interesting article!

thanks for the heads up - interesting turn of events. I hope this doesn't have any poor affects on the direction and momentum of fotolia. They are one of my favorite sites.
It also makes reading more interesting after attending the ref5esh istockalypse, and knowing who kelly and bruce are... it makes the world a little smaller :)

Yeah that is a big threat for fotolia Germany is the most important market for them. Actually Dietmar Frohmann wasn't good at all but he knows all fotolias customer contacts in Germany, so that doesn't look too good for fotolia they really have to speed up before istock steals their european market niche.

fotolia is terrible...
they don't accept anything from me anymore...and these are the best photos i have that they are rejecting

Thank you for adding nothing to the actual topic ::)

I hope that fotolia can keep their european market share. Almost 70-80% of my sales occurs in european business hours and when I look who bought the images I can see many companies from germany.
-
Will people move to the higher prices with istock? They have exclusive images but a lot of the top microstock contributors have much bigger portfolios with fotolia. I don't know why people would move to istock. The way my sales are going this month, everyone is going to stockxpert :)
-
if a customer is satisfied with one agency; and if customer isn't small and their business process is aligned with one agency, it will not be so easy to turn them to another - so I am not sure how big threat is it for Fotolia.
On the other hand, for me personally Fotolia isn't doing well. It is just above 123rf and BS, but far behind IS, SS, StockXpert, DT.
Anyway, interesting news; and interesting to see how the things will develop.

Sharpshot,
I think we have similar clients. StockXpert is doing so much better for me than the other sites.

Different clients here:). My numbers indicate that fotolia is going to be my number one site this month. IS is going to be second and then follows SS and DT. StockXpert performance is very lousy this month compared to other sites.

Can you elaborate on what you mean he "wasn't good" ?

He had an very arrogant attitude to contributors AND customers. He NEVER adressed critiques or requests and he insulted fellow photographers by saying their work sucked and is below any standards!
If you can read german check out the german microstockforum foto-talk to get more details!
If i think longer about it and i must say he really fits much better to istock ;D
