With all the criteria that goes into how well you perform on a site I look at the bottom line on earnings made to rank the "big six". I've started contributing to the "big six" within the same year and here's how they rank for me in terms of money generated.

SS
FT
DT
IS
BigStock
StockXpert

IS, for me, holds by far the most promise for long term earnings.

Why do you think you are doing so poorly on IS, and are you doing (or planning on doing) anything about it?

On IS it comes down to what and how many photos I've gotten accepted on that site!  I have by far the smallest portfolio there (87 images) compared to the other sites but I've still made it to the bronze canister.  As far as what action I'm taking to get more accepted is for me to continue to progress as a photographer and hope they accept more of what I contribute.

I agree with sharply - IS easily holds the best long term potential for me.

It is very likely that I shall go exclusive with IS towards the end of the next twelve months (I need to be silver or preferably gold first).

SS earns me the most money at the moment, but I don't regard SS as a good long term investment; SS is very nice for a wham bam thank you ma'am, but as we all know, as soon as one stops uploading the income will fall very heavily.

I cannot, for instance, go on a six week tour of China and be able to rely on continued income from SS like I can with IS; chances are I'd return from China and find my SS income down by at least 50% and probably nearer 75%.

SS is great fun and I love it.  But business is business.

There's no doubt that IS and the other "pay per download" sites are set up for the long hall!
SS is like a committed marriage.  You have to keep it alive or else it will die on you!

That's my timetable as well - I'm waiting for Diamond level (and double my current commission) before making the jump.

Considering 2007 only, for a more reasonable time-frame, it's IS, DT, StockXpert, FT (these three all very close), BigStock.  I'm not in SS.

Yep, but only after I hit diamond level. If all goes as planned, that should be in mid to late summer of 2008 - about 20 months into my microstock career.

For total income last month my rankings were:

IS
SS
DT
FT
BigStock
StockXpert
123
LO
CanStockPhoto
CR

But for earnings per photos it was

IS
StockXpert
SS
DT
BigStock
123
FT
LO
CR
CanStockPhoto

There's a big difference when looking at per-photo performance!

For me it's:

SS
IS
StockXpert
DT
FT

As we all know SS is only good as long as you are actively uploading. I totally agree with sharpley_done; IS holds the best promise for long term earnings. Also, StockXpert is the 'up and coming' one to watch, which I think is going to be gaining significant ground over the next year.

Hi all,

My rank is:

SS (62,80%)
.
.
.
.
.
AL (10,96%)
DT (9,81%)
FT (6,92%)
LO (4,30%)
IS (2,70%)
SX (2,48%)

The reasons:

SS is indeed my best by far... in the past 10 months i've earned more at SS than everywhere else put together. Then DT has a great performance from the slow ones. I've had a EL at LO so it has distorted the results. For IS and SX, i didn't upload very much at IS yet (it will probably jump to 2 or 3rd when i have the same number of pics, but the upload sucks) and i started an SX only in July.
Finally i had one sale at Alamy, that largely compensates for many, many sales on other sites... one of these per month and i'd be happier...

Regards

Francisco Leito
