Getty's new watermark now includes URL for that specific image, plus the Contributor's name, and is a box placed at lower right:

http://www.photoarchivenews.com/getty-images-new-watermark-gives-full-photo-details/?goback=.gde_144538_member_114029678

[Wonder if they'll include such info in their IS and Thinkstock images down the road? I guess stranger things have happened.]

Love the watermark. Now, if they would just have reasonable commissions, it would be an agency worth contributing to....

I think they love themselves too much.  Putting it off to the side allows ease of copying the left side of the image.  Sure, having the direct link plastered on there is great, but it might be hard for a buyer to see clearly with that over 1/3 of the image.  Also, gty.im isn't a logo, particularly.

good idea, poor execution, needs to cover more of the image/ be more central

But then again, not all images have central composition...I like it, but I agree, the protection is not as good as it was.

It's a horrible watermark. Makes comping much more difficult for designers. It's more intrusive, includes more unnecessary coverage. I like istock's watermark far more. You can use the comp image and not have it be so obvious that it's watermarked.

Did you watch the video? They seem to think that this watermark is going to change the perception that they're an old media company into something relevant to the digital age. They also mention their valuable contributors - Ha! That's a lot to expect from a watermark...

It's funny that helix7 notes that he thinks it makes comping more difficult, because to me it makes it looks as if stealing (for the dishonest) will be a ton easier for many images as the coverage area is so very small. How well can you have done if both user and contributor think it's a step back?

I like it. Very modern minimalist design and very useful. I also appreciate that they add the contributor!

Works for me :)

Also, gty.im isn't a logo, particularly.

It's the web address for the image, not sure they're considering using it as the logo, when you enter the address in the search bar it takes you to the appropriate image on their site which then has the usual Gettyimages logo as the watermark.

Just mentioned the video states the watermark includes a new "logo".

Just register on Gettyimages and you can download all 80 million comps without watermark.

See the above post. If you log on you don't get any watermarks. If you want to comp, log on and get the watermark free image. Of course having the watermark disappear just because you're logged on makes the watermark pointless. I guess the only benefit is that images sucked into google images will have the watermark (I assume) which is a good thing.
