Title: FlickrRF/Getty
Post by: Oldhand on September 28, 2009, 05:24
Hi there - just a quick one..

In the UK today (28th Sept), there's a picture in the Daily Telegraph newspaper, Page 25, captioned, "FickrRF/Getty". I think it's of an organic vegetable or wine glasses. Sorry I can't post the pic, scanners on the blink!

Fist time I've come across this caption, and I scan through every national UK newspaper every day.

If it had come from a macro agency they'd have paid about $70 - not sure with Flickr.

I have no pics with Flickr, but thought it might interest someone

It likely did come from a traditional agency, this will be one of the Images from the Getty Flickr Collection (http://www.gettyimages.com/creative/frontdoor/flickr?isource=usa_home_default_spotlight_flickr), if you check the pricing it is comparable.

Hi Adeptris

My point was this was the first use I'd seen in mainstream newspapers from this latest Getty outlet - it must be starting to reap dividends for them.

I visited the Getty Gallery in London today where they are currently displaying about 50 Flickr photographs. In general they are vastly different from traditional RF concept shots. They remind me more of contemporary art photography by the likes of Alec Soth, Candida Hofer, Stephen Shore etc.

The standard is exceptional - worth seeing if you are in London - East Castle St just off Oxford Circus.
