Anyone have any info or are submitting here?

Lonely Plant Images

I heard of one person on dpchallenge who is submitting so i wanted to check it out but haven't been too impressed so far.

You have to send 500 images which are available for exclusive licensing.  Saving up 500 travel images which could be earning $$ on other sites is a lot of photography to invest in the hopes of getting in.  If those images have to be exclusive they had better earn a decent return.. so i guess it would be nice to know what their sales are like.

When browsing around the site I was met with a bunch of dead links :(  which doesn't build my confidence.
When doing a search for norway, the first two images that come up were said to be 'model released' but.. well.. somehow i just don't think a street full of random people is model released.

I heard a rumour once that the main reason for the existence of that agency was for Lonely Planet to get cheap, exclusive images for their travel handbooks.

I've heard that rumor too, and basically speculation that their only real customer was there own books, but I think it was all speculation and I have never managed to find someone who contributes to them to find out if it was worth while.  IMO 500 exclusive travel images it wouldn't be the first place I'd be looking.  Of course the real way to find out is email / ring and ask them :)

If they accept you and offer you a contract, than you have to sent in at least 500 exclusive  images per quarter. That's a lot. So you really have to be a travel photographer to make so many travel pictures

I was wondering too about them.
Especially after I found my picture on the cover of one of their guides:
http://www.amazon.com/Lonely-Planet-Lumpur-Melaka-Regional/dp/1741044855/ref=pd_sxp_f_i
Since I knew they used their own photographers I though at first it was a very similar image to mine, but I found it's mine indeed.
No trace of a similar image in their collection.
After the initial joy, I checked that I had no EL on this image, and may be it's ok, I don't think they sell 250.000 copies of a regional Malaysia guide, anyway I'd like to check.

I always thought the print limits of the regular microstock licenses are very loose. Quite frankly, I'm sure Lonely Planet and other publishers an afford a few $$ for an image.

Although I am more of a travel photographer than a stok photographer, the idea of separating 500 images exclusively for LP never appealed to me.
