Title: Submitting to distributors
Post by: m00n on May 02, 2015, 13:47
Hi,

I just registered in this forum, but I have been reading it for some time now.

I have some experience in stock, through Moment (former Flickr) collection in Getty Images. Nowadays the photographer has to do the key wording even if it is not accepted, so I decided to try to apply to some distributors who not only do the key wording but also distribute the images to several other sites, including Getty Images.

I have also tried micro stock, and was accepted to Shutterstock, iStock and Fotolia, but I can't compete with the huge portfolios, as I don't shoot that much and can't submit hundreds of images every month.

I applied to some new agencies (for me) and I have been wondering how long do they take to answer, and if they always answer even if it is to say no.

Do you have any experience in applying to Westend 61, Blend Images and Image Source?

Thanks in advance.
Alex

I upload to about dozen or so sites but I have never heard of any of the 3 you mentioned which makes me think that they are probably not good sellers.

Aren't these three all perfectly respectable macros?

@OP, there's no way I'd want anyone else to do my keywording. Full stop.
People can suggest things I've missed, or correct me if I've made an honest mistake; but I don't trust anyone else to know for sure what I've photographed.

@ShadySue: Thanks for your input. I understand your point of view, although I think it is more adequate for acurate description of fauna/flora/location of places; most of my images are people (lifestyle) and being that English is not my main language I tend to feel insecure about Key wording concepts. If I'm not mistaken, at least one of the three agencies I mentioned asks for a couple of key words when submitting the images and then they complement.

Yes, these are macro agencies. One of them has a cheaper RF collection, which can be distributed through some micros.

For sure, I couldn't keyword in any other language. Sometimes I even have to think what the Standard English word is for something!

On first upload to new agency i was ok to proposed keywording service. When i saw the results - i took all efforts to re-keyword and cancel their 'service'. Employee which did this job was absolutely not responsible for what he was doing. Just to all towers replaced original name with Big Ben, mostly all changed keywords were not correct and misleading to buyer. Original geographic names were replaced. Nice. Never more trust to oursource keywording

Oops sorry didn't realize that you were talking about Macro.  No need for somebody to give me a minus for not knowing them as this is a microstock site. ;)
