Some amazing color photos from Russia taken in early 1900s. I absolutely love the composition of some of them, too - which proves that comp rules haven't changed much in 100 years!

and it's not even colour film, but a much more modern RGB technique - fantastic

They're great. It's amazing that most people stayed still for the process. Water was a problem, though, it gets false colours. The lack of vehicles and industrial buildings makes the scenes look so peaceful.

Absolutely amazing. Pretty much like time travel.

I saw these photos at the Museum of Russian Art in Minneapolis some time ago. They're fascinating. It's startling to see the 19th century in color. And the people in these photos look like they stepped out of even earlier centuries.

Nice colors. Interesting to note that the photographic process used is quite similar to how the Kodachrome technology works.

Lovely; I must have missed these when they were first posted. Tx.

From Tsar Nicholas II:
I regret to inform you that we cannot accept your submission for the following reasons:
-Flat/dull colors
-Direct on-camera flash and/or flash fall-off (bright subject, dark background)
-Harsh lighting with blown-out highlights that lack details and/or distracting shadows
- Distracting lens flares
-Incorrect white balance
(apologies, could not resist. These photos are very cool.)

^ i must confess I also had the same thought.... :)

Very nice and interesting images.
It is a pity that a great part of his works disappeared or have been destroyed.
