I saw one of those on ebay about three or four years ago. I think it is probably an exaggeration to say they made hundreds of them I think I saw a reference to about 100. The price tag on this one is way over what they have realised in the past - one went not too long ago for about �16,000.

Baldrick: yeah �16,000 sounds a much better price.  Thanks for the link, that was a superb pic.

All the more so when you consider that the lens creates an image circle approx 24mm in diameter, so it actually makes a completely circular image on a 35mm negative. I suppose that it still has some value in technical photography but I would be surprised if there aren't cheaper alternatives (though we know the asking price but do we actually know what the buyer paid?). The original price was a million yen, which is �7,700 at today's prices, multiplying that fourteenfold for a secondhand lens seems rapacious.
