I am curious if anyone is up scaling images for stock?
I have some smaller images and I was thinking about this.

i use topaz giga with good results - i upscale x4 then reduce to 6mp and accepted by all. even scans of slides if grain is  minimal

for PS HDR i almost always have to post-process because it usually has a lot of sky noise, so i use deNoise (if i can't use a blue sky-replace) then giga. again almost always accepted

Do you think that larger images will sell better?

I never do that, but I keep current with equipment.  I down-sample, if anything.
But like Cascoly says, you could use https://www.topazlabs.com/gigapixel-ai?fbclid=IwAR2k9cRvEGQFVM0UmXSeHIeAMlPmg0xEbfTIC0BPj8hRcy3K5UAPeY9FQpQ

My first DSLR was a Fuji Finepix S2. As far i remember it was a 6 MP DSLR upscaled to 12MP in camera.
Was some kind of marketing gag.
I don't use the Fuji S2 anymore, but i still use an 12MP full frame DSLR. Great quality especially for long exposure landscape photography.
in my experience real 12 MP images still sell well. I can process 12 MP Raw files like crazy and still get over 90% of my 12 MP images accepted.
I have to process Raw files of my 45MP DSLR more carefully.
I even think that i could use only 12MP for microstock. Maybe i would sell something less but not much less.
At macro stock things are different, they want at least 12 MP, but less than 24MP doesn't make much sense there.
At microstock i wouldn't bother about uploading 12MP files.

I am using for last year my Sony A7SIII and it was really great with accepting but sometimes
I need something larger. I agree, definitely no problem for micro stock.

I used to upsize my not quite 4mp images for SS, they sold just fine for years.  Now I think the only reason to upsize would be if you knew the search favored larger images which is entirely possible, but I don't know.

I think downsizing probably makes more sense more often.

would upscaling work for old 2mpix (1600x 1200) photos? because I have a lot of good photos taken in the early 2000s but they were taken on my old Nikon Coolpix & Olympus P&S cameras.

Yes, Steve, Topaz has a free trial, but it is not worth it?
First I downloaded Topaz, which is very very big! 1Giga?
Then I tried it. BUT there is a watermark from them on it. so, only if you pay them, you get it without their watermark.
I was really angry about it. As many other apps: FREE trail just means, TRY it but do not get any of the results to work with, because watermarked ordto small size.
I will try to find a free version, which got hacked somewhere instead. Because the app is really good. but I cannot and do not want to invest. for that I do not earn enough.

At one time I read that shutterstock bans for this.

as you say, it's common - that's the difference between a free version (lacking some features) and a free trial version.  topaz has greatly improved my acceptances at all agncies & reduced the time i spend ind PS re-processing

I use photoshop with different results, as said before the final upscale mostly depend on the start image resolution and details.
By the way, upscaling is a pain and it's hard to predict results also because the AI upscaling is not really simply "upscale", it's a rework with additional details that sometimes change the image in casual but important points

i get much better results with GigaAI, but do check after running a batch

you can control for noise suppression & sharpen & I keep these low

::) Yeah 'cos who cares about pirating IP without paying for license... on a stock photography forum.
