For any Brits who are interested and haven't caught the trailers, there's a documentary about Vivian Maier, the French nanny who photographed Chicago street life all her life but the photos weren't discovered until after her death.  I think I first saw the reference to her here on msg.
Anyway, BBC1's Imagine is doing a documentary on her starting at 22:35 (23:35 in Wales)

I am so fervently hoping PBS picks this up so I can see it.

Vivian Maeir was a huge talent, a master of the photographic art and a great observer of life.  The big question I guess is whether she realized any of that while she was alive.  I sure hope so.

And it's still on iPlayer for those who can get it (by fair means or foul).

Well worth watching, quite an amazing story.  There must be other great photographers that died and their work was just destroyed.  Its great that her photos survived but it doesn't seem right that people are making so much money when she was too poor to pay for films to be developed.

I liked seeing all the photos from one roll of film, so different from the way most digital photographers work now.  I'm so pleased that I had the film and darkroom experience but can't bring myself to go back to film.  I'm definitely going to do more B&W jpeg only though.  I don't like doing B&W from raw, as there's always the temptation to have a colour version as well.
