I've just come back from five days in Cambodia armed with film cameras and my new LX3. Haven't had the film developed yet but thought some people might be interested to see what this little gem of a 'point and shoot' can do.

Pics shot in A mode, RAW and edited in Lightroom 2.

Are Lumix-LX3 files suitable for microstock? Have you tried? I wanted to buy one, but I am not sure if I can shoot stock with it.Thanks.

I am hoping to get some LX3 files accepted somewhere (I don't think IS or SS will accept them) at some point. I actually shot some studio stuff with it since it has a hotshoe attachment for the wireless trigger and a Manual mode. Will see if I can get one accepted somewhere and let you know.

Very nice images phildate, the reason might have been the photographer and not the camera why the images turned out so well  ;)

Phil,

Hows the grain on this cam? I have the LX2 and really like it, but could do with a little less of the grain/noise. I hear the LX3 is much improved in this respect, so I am thinking of trading up to LX3 or even the Leica version because it has a better warranty and will hold better resale value.

Would it be possible for you to post a small full res cut here of one of the shots? Like where the building edge meets the sky?

With regards to stock, I have had some accepted at istock even with the old LX2 shooting raw. All depends on the shot though. Some from the LX3 are just a n0 go.

Great pics - thanks for posting.

Hi Phil,

Angkor Vat must be amazing.  The photos look beautiful - who cares about their sellability?  They are great travel memories above all.

I don't know the LX3, but over last christmas I worked part time at a store and I tested most of the Lumix cameras, and ended up recommending them to most of the customers looking for a point and shoot camera, including the LX2. The LX2 is 10.2MP. So I am sure the LX3 is close to that. I cannot see how a 10.2MP is not suitable for stock.
Many stock photographers in the past have submitted and sold images taken with 4MP camera. And those cameras do not have lenses that the Lumix has nowadays. Leica makes incredible glasses, and those who know their photography history, esp the pro rangefinders know that Leica were and still is the camera to contend with. Combine this with Panasonic the top name for HDTV,etc...masters of semiconductors , if second , only to Samsung,(who by the way combined with Pentax in top line cameras), how can you lose?

Great shots Phil!

It goes to prove once again that you don't need a large piece of "Male Jewelery" hanging from you to attain super images.
A lot of the Panasonic's produce high levels of noise but this can be dealt with easily enough and you do have that fantastic Leica lens.

My two best selling images on stock were shot with Lumix FZ 30.

I've got it two months ago, very happy about.
I'm getting images accepted without problems on all major sites, the lens is great, the sensor is obviously not on par with a decent dslr, but it's more than enough.
I do shoot in jpg, keeping the noise reduction at minimum.
I'll be traveling in north india in august and I'm thinking about using the LX3 instead of my 400D, because of the awful performance of the EF-S 17-85. can't afford a decent lens before leaving.

I have several images from the LX2 accepted by Microstock, no issue. Just move the Lightroom Slider "noise reduction" a little bit to the right side (;-)

some of the best equipment, computers, HDTV,etc are never advertised. As pros used to say for Sinar, Hasselblad,Rolleiflec, etc , "..because those who know already buy them".
Lumix is not the flavour of the month. You don't see them like Nikon and Canon. Like the classic Leica, it carries the tradition of high standards, and like Leica and other cameras, you don't see them splashed all over the magazines or web.
The quality speaks for itself.
