Title: Canon CPS changes
Post by: elvinstar on September 10, 2013, 13:46
Is anyone else here a member of the Canon CPS program? I just received an email from them and though that maybe it had been written by one of our "favorite" microstock sites. It was along the lines of, "We're making some changes," which translated to, "You're getting the shaft again."

They're no longer allowing the 60D to be counted towards membership points. I have 2 of them!

The only good news is that they've reduced Platinum membership from $500 to $300, but I doubt that I'll ever own enough Canon gear to qualify.

Thanks for reading my rant.  ;D

I've had two items that needed repair in many years of owning Canon digital gear and both were only a few weeks old at the time they needed fixing (so were under warranty). I am not inclined to prepay for a year's membership when if I needed something fixed in a hurry - if it ever did break - I can pay for the expedited shipping when it happens.

Might be a good deal for some, but I don't think it makes any sense for me (and the 5D Mk II is only the list as a most of my lenses - and oddly the lenses are all more points than my camera; not sure how they work those out as it doesn't appear to relate to cash paid for the item).

In my day job, I am a photo editor at a newspaper. Largely due to Canon's expensive and very poor repair and service, I switched all of our photographers to Nikon, who have been fantastic to deal with. Canon makes great cameras, but frankly, their service sucks.

Some of the other perks are gear cleanings (lenses & bodies) as well as credentials for events, I think.

Only advantages I'm seeing from this are you get more clean/checks and it's all internatal anymore no need for certificates. otherwise it's the shaft.
gear evaluations goes from 2 weeks to 1 week which once you include return shipping into that time it almost makes it worthless.
you get a lower discount on any repair items and you can only have so many items repaired using the discount.
oh and they realized the platinum members wouldn't like they get less for same amount of money so they lowered their price but for us in the gold we get less and pay just as much for it :-)

Does canon invest in microstock agencies by chance?
