It seems Flickr is running into some finance problems. I will gladly pay but how i hate that Americans refuse to include taxes into the final price
To that end, effective today, the price of a Flickr Pro membership has increased to:

1 month: $6.99, plus tax
3 month: $18.99, plus tax
1 year: $59.99, plus tax
2 year: $117.99, plus tax

You actually have to pay for Flickr? What do you get for that, WHY?

Lots of likes and validation from people looking for likes.

I thought maybe there was something more that someone wanted to pay for. Like useful backup storage, POD connections, or something more than likes? I tend to LIKE money more than clicks.   8)

Thanks

The only reason I see people paying flickr 50$ a year for "backup" is a). they don't understand what the word backup really means, b). they truly want all their images to disappear when the company inevitably folds in a couple of years or c). they have a lot of money to burn and don't know what to do with it.

Yeah, my question too when I read the heading. I thought it was free.

I never liked flickr or the (many of them) ******* forums.

But.

It was sort of a real and strong community in contrast of insta or the lonely uploaders to free sites nowadays.
No info shared anymore, no technique no nothing. I will be sad to see it fade or die.
It was a (ot always) balanced "like me!" and "here some ideas, techqniques, space to communicate" I think.
But I would prefer it to surf and explore it and not all those "OMG" and gear/person pushing photo sites, magazines trash (ooops!).

What is Flickr?

Flickr always sells a high volume of quilitative pictures. It has a huge marketplace. Nowadays, spammer using Flickr photos without permission in their websites. It's really sad. My opinion is that Flickr should increase the price. It is providing free image hosting which is enough for normal users. I like Flickr and always remain connected with Flickr.

Thank you  :)

What is Flickr?

I found my account, it's free. Please do no upvote anything or comment, this is 100% snapshot.  :)

https://www.flickr.com/gp/pporro/5KcpC9

I did find out two things. I can upload up to 1,000 images for free. And they read the data, including keywords and camera and date. Also I can pay to not see ads. Which explains the profit side of this. People who look, are giving ad views to  Flickr, people who pay to put their images on Flickr are supporting the ad views.

I see no reason to PAY to pander for clicks and views, or become popular, just so someone can come and steal my images. Or so Flickr can make money from my images, for ad views.

I'm debating whether or not to keep the "Pro" subscription. I discovered that there is an Adobe discount of two free months (per year I think) of the photographer's package. I used the code and Adobe created two months, so there'e $20. What are the other true benefits though? I recall hearing people talk about getting license requests through their Flickr accounts. Are there any plans for Flickr to introduce their own licensing program? Thoughts?

I think that Flickr rumor about licensing has died with the sale to Smugmug, but maybe not? I mean a tie in with prints, would make sense, but for stock, the market doesn't seem to be open for new agencies and growth. Only way DP made it was paying people 50c an upload, and filling their collection. Which you can guess is all the same images that the top agencies already had, from the same people.

After that, commission changes, price drops, they are down in the has been sites with 123RF and the rest. What I mean is, there just isn't a demand or place in the market for another general stock agency. POD, why not? They have everything in place for that?

Reason for answering. Get 300 accepted on Adobe and you get a free year of Adobe CC.  ;D

Yes!!!! I didn't submit enough to AS the past few years to get the free year. This year, since allowing editorial, I've already passed the requirement. Hopefully they'll continuing offering it!

They paid 20c per image. I couldn't let that one stand uncorrected.  :D

Sorry I thought they started higher and then limited how much as time went by? I didn't jump in before looking for how deep the water was.  :) Not someplace I wanted to be.

Yes my memory was in error:

The promotion program - $0.20 per each accepted image (on 500 images);
Author commissions is 44 to 60%;

What's the commission now?

I never liked flickr or the (many of them) autistic forums.

Watch your language when talking about autism/autistic (Handicapped, naive, Mad...)! Words matter. The way we use them to communicate with or about others can have a huge impact on peoples lives. This is especially the case when it comes to disability. If you are a father of autistic child how do you feel if someone is using autism in offensive and perpetuate negative view. It hurts, right?

Eh, never thought it this way.
