Following the discussion about aerial and kite photography made me decide to post about my Birthday Present.  My wife is giving me a ride in a glider for my birthday.  It was to be a surprise but we got rained out.

Now that it isn't a surprise (we're going back Saturday), I am soliciting advice.  Lenses and extra equipment could be an issue.  I'm 6'4" and that cockpit is pretty tight.  I have a 12-24 for pictures of the glider -- shooting through cockpit glass.  Being in such a tight space might make changing lenses difficult?  And, changing lenses takes time.  That could be an issue.  There's no motor, you know?   ;)
I do have the 18-135 but it is a kit lens.  Any suggestions?
This might have to be the practice run and go back again for the real thing?   ;D

Hi Warren
My camera is a Pentax K10D. I use straight 35mm and 50mm lens at 500 shutter speed if the alt. is 500ft. or less(above ground). My aircraft is equipped with a door i can open in flight so, I don't know about shoot thru the canopy. I would suggest trying to find as flat a spot on the canopy as possible.
Good luck

Sounds like fun. I've never done aerial, but you may consider a Cir. polarizing filter in your pocket just in case?

At least you won't have the vibration problems that a powered aircraft have.

I'd wonder what lens, once in the air, there's not much time to be fumbling and changing. Also, if you are doing photos and working, please take the time to just be amused and enjoy the view! Have Fun! (and bring back some pictures...)

Beats a kite?
