I need to get one time insurance for a location photo shoot, more than my regular policy will cover. Does anyone have a source, online or otherwise, for such an event policy? My regular company does not offer such a policy. Thx!

I've used a company in LA called Truman Van Dyke. They specialize in film shoots, but I'm sure they can cover photoshoots- it's all pretty much the same. They turned it around for me in a day. It's not cheap- hopefully a client is paying ;D
Also, I used to get insurance through Lloyd's of London when I shot diamonds for Debeers- they insisted on using them. Another broker told me that LLoyds is famous for not paying claims- they litigate you to death. I never had to test it, but just a word of caution.

There are also insurance policies called "photopac insurance". This was a standard line item in most advertising budgets for years, but is not as popular as it used to be. As with any insurance, you have to read to the policy carefully, because while the lowest cost items are covered, the events that can put you out of business ( i.e. a model being injured on a shoot, or damage to property) have a lot of caveats in the fine print. The insurance companies are very good at collecting premiums, but less happy about making payouts. A trusted insurance agent is very valuable when buying this type of insurance. This is not the place to trust a web based transaction. Make sure that any assistants, stylists and even location agents that you hire are also covered, even if they are working as freelance employees. ( that's a typical way out for the insurance company). Also, make sure you know what the deductibles are for property of others. This can often be higher than the value of the covered property. It's a real minefield.
