Ive been with the Getty-RM, since 93 but recently I adviced a friend to go there and sure enough he ended up in what they call this "Photographers-choice". I mean blimey!!  they charge 50 bucks per shot accepted, bit over the top, isnt it? I thought it was 25.

Although being a long term member of Getty, I know nothing about this Photographers-choice and cant really advice him here. Anybody here with some knowledge or experience on this?
I mean do pics sell from that collection of Getty?

From what I heard, yes they do sell but it is a gamble whether you get your money back. On the other hand, it can be good.

I wouldn't trust it. From what I've heard, Getty stopped accepting new artists into their house collections a LONG time ago. I know a guy who owns a large video production company out here in UT that produced over 3,000 footage clips and he spent about a year begging them to represent the work his company put together, and he has friends who are working at Getty...

It would surprise me a lot if they stopped acceptance into the house-collection, many images there are looking quite dated actually, mainly because a large percentage there comes from trannies being scanned, ages back.

Well I still dont know what to tell him, 50 bucks per shot and he might never see any return at all?

there was a very long thread about this topic a year or so ago, should be lots of relevant info in that.
Try a forum search.

Not new content, I meant no longer, or at least very seldom, accepting new photographers.

Exactly... from Flickr. I've thought about applying to contribute to their house collections in the past, but I'm pretty confidant all I'll get is Photographer's Choice.

Exactly! I came from Stones-worldwide back in 93 and many of my pals came from Image-Bank but back in them days Getty wasnt really established and they needed the imagery from Stones and Image-bank which was geared towards Advertising/corporate and travel. Thats why they bought them up.

I don't know if I will ever try to get in to Getty.  Their commissions are really low and I don't like what's happened with istock since they took over.  I'm going to stick with alamy for now and hope my sales there improve as I upload more.  I'm really not interested in paying to upload.

I think the idea behind Photographers Choice is to allow people to submit images that Getty editors may not normally accept. It's a gamble. If the stuff sells you get free credits toward submitting more images. It seems to be a self-monitoring system. At $50 per image contributors probably will only send a handful of good shots versus dozens of a different angles of the same shot. If you submit stuff that sells the more you're encouraged to submit.

I've seen some people say they do very well with PC and like that the fee keeps the collection from getting diluted. Others don't like the fee. Probably depends on how sellable the images a person's images are.

I'm pretty sure Flickr and Photographers Choice submit to those individual collections. For house contributors editors decide which of the numerous collections the images go to.

I was accepted to Getty PC a while ago. I had some sales but nothing really worthwhile. I have just 28 images there (I think) and mostly used free placement opportunities - but if I spent 1400 bucks on placement fees it wouldn't make financial sense.
