Title: Pentax K-5II & K-5IIs - impressive IQ
Post by: nicku on September 03, 2013, 04:16
I noticed Pentax has launched the k-5II and k-5IIs.
What i remarked mostly is the impressive high ISO performance. In my opinion almost on pair or with the FF bodies from Nikon and Canon (D800 and 5D3) until ISO 6400 and over current APS-C sensors from Nikon and Canon.

Personally I don't understand where you see that they can compete with D800 a D 600 or a Canon 6D
But of course we are speaking about camera with very different price level.

For the price the Pentax camera is pretty impressive, especially if you need a rugged camera. I have the K5 and have dropped it onto granite and been in downpours in it and my friend's was submerged and survived. Another friend has the K5IIs and raves about it. Lately he has been playing with the 645 though and raves even more about that...

k-5IIs is pretty impressive.  I think comparing it to D800 might be a stretch but I don't think there is anything in APS-C world that beats it.  Handling, focusing, and general fit and finish are just excellent.  Plus weather resistant and IBIS and small size.  Almost too small, I wish it was a quarter inch taller so my pinky would fit.

I don't know about 6400, my tolerance for noise is low and I rarely shoot over 800 ISO, but certainly it is competitive with far more expensive cameras in this area.

I am a k5 shooter, problem with pentax isn't Iq it's the system that lacks a lot of stuff, starting from a decent flash system, sdm motors have had failures and are slow, new products take forever to be launched and so on...
