Wonderful idea Jonathan, and great start to your collection! I will keep these type of images in mind for future shoots. Once I have a few good ones I will be in touch to see if you want to represent them.

Hi All,

Well after being online at just one agency for about a week we had our first sale at www.spacesimages.com for $2200 dollars. The really fun pat was this image wasn't even property released. There is still a lot of money to be made in Macro RM. We are now officially a company with returns. Thanks to all that helped this agency become what it has and I hope we see sales like this starting on a very regular basis. Hopefully in the next month we will be represented by 50+ agencies. We are still looking to represent more strong photographers that are interested in learning more about the Macro side of the industry. Great way to finish the week. I am doing my happy dance as I type, which isn't easy

Brings up the question of property releases. Property releases have never been shown to be legally required (at least in the US). Obviously though, you would need to be a property release expert to curate a collection of images of property. Where are you drawing the line as to what requires a property release?

Hi Sean,

We aren't drawing the line on property releases at all the end user has to make the decision if they want to use the image outside of a market that requires a release so it really is a mix out there. Corbis has told us that they sell as many non property released images as they do released ones for commercial use so I guess the need isn't as great as I was always lead to believe by my art directors.
I think it is good news that both released and non released images are selling well for both commercial use and for editorial. This image was used for commercial purposes leaving any release issue up to the buyer if there should ever be a question. Our agency, Corbis and our contributor are all in the clear because of the way the contracts are designed. Nice to see that no PR doesn't mean you should think about what collection to place it in, just as long as the buyer is the one responsible for the final use

I've always said the buyer should take final responsibility, but the micros are very much against that, as we all know, preferring to take some effort to offer the buyer the knowledge of how they can use it. How is a image buyer supposed to be versed in the "rules" surrounding releases, and how to get in touch with the person in charge of said property (if it is unrecognizable)? Isn't that somewhat playing with fire for Corbis (regardless of what may or may not be written)?

Now, Dan Hellar does seem to indicate these terms are successful, but offering the buyer reassurance would seem to be the best bet to build a customer pool of willing buyers:

On another thing - why don't the thumbnails link to a license purchase page, or why isn't there any link on the site to where you can find these? I can't even find the collection listed on corbis right now to see how they are listed...

How Corbis handles its property releases is like all the Macro agencies handle it. Getty also explains clearly in their buyers agreement that if the buyer should use an image where it has not been agreed by the agency is proper then it is the clients responsibility. If you use the interface that Corbis offers you should be able to find anything you wish. Try the advanced search engine it works fine for me. Don't try and compare the model of Micro with Macro they are different in several ways. The information is out there if you just do a little work.

I don't do many interiors but I can do some landscapes around Cornwall that might fit in with this collection. Hopefully this summer will be better than the last 3 here and I will be in touch in a few months time.
