Title: Portfolios for inspiration
Post by: leaf on October 08, 2009, 09:51
Anyone want to share a portfolio that makes them go wow or makes them inspired to take photos.  It could be stock, or just a general photographer website.

Here are a few of my fav's.

Mathew Mahon - http://www.matthewmahon.com/ (http://www.matthewmahon.com/)
James Nachtwey - http://www.jamesnachtwey.com/ (http://www.jamesnachtwey.com/)
Lorenzo Moscia - http://www.moscia.cl/ (http://www.moscia.cl/)

Love this guy's work. A great illustrator and photographer combined. :)

I loved James Nachtwey's work, the others are not my style.  Thanks for the links!

PS: My contribution: Matthias Klum (http://www.klum.se/ (http://www.klum.se/))
He is a pro, and he has illustrated some National Geographic articles, if I am not mistaken.

For those who like James Nachtwey's work, you might also want to enjoy the movie War Photographer (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0309061)

Great portfolios which would be rejected with "not suitable for stock" note :-)

I think that I read an article about someone who met his future wife through Flickr because they both did similar work...

Looks similar, huh? (http://www.flickr.com/photos/aknacer/sets/72157605881081844/)

I had the opportunity this week to meet one of our best nature photographers, Luiz Claudio Marigo.  Later I noticed he took the photos of two card albuns I collected years ago! ;D

Luiz Claudio Marigo website (http://www.lcmarigo.com.br/ingles/index.htm)
Luiz Claudio Marigo at Tyba (http://www.tyba.com.br/portugues/busca/banco.php?busca=Luiz%20Cl%E1udio%20Marigo&search=quick)

And this is the photographer who runs an agency teaching photography and running a group that goes out shooting together twice a month.  I went with them this week in a hike and maybe I will join this group - it's good to be with other people when shooting outside, sometimes in areas where I would never go alone with my camera.

Monique Cabral at Tyba (http://www.tyba.com.br/portugues/busca/banco.php?busca=Monique%20Cabral&search=quick)

PS: Some photos I took in this hike, unfortunately the day was quite dark on the mountain we were.

There are so many...but lately I've been enjoying work from Kevin Meredith (Lomokev) in the UK

He's a Flickr darling and the site links to his folio. Made his name by being voted one of the top LOMO photographers in the world, but uses everything from a pinhole to a 5D. Don't know if he shoots stock but he does shoot for corporate organisations, has a book out and travels the world.

Marc Adamus used to be in Shutterpoint when I started there, and I was always amazed by his images.  Another excellent landscape photographer who is still at SP is Mike Dawson.

sorry to do this to you - but on those days when I can't see a picture for love nor money I go to this site, put on a sturdy pair of walking shoes and head out into the streets. I don't get a lot of stock work out of it but all work and no play.....sometimes I'll take a DSLR but other times it's an old Fuji F30 or an even older Olympus Stylus Epic.
