To be honest, the only one I really liked was the shepherd and sheep in the snow.

I'm also a little disappointed by the shortlist. Surely there were better entries? For example for me the lighting is pretty poor in the frog image although the subject is obviously brilliant; the architectural shot from LA looks like a snapshot and the English Lido image is a bit boring. Makes me think that some of the most established photographers here should enter.

My top 3:

- Shepherd
- Ring fire jump
- Synchronised Swimmers

My top 2:

1. desertification in Mongolia
2. shepherd

Best regards

I'm assuming from the captions under the photos that some of the awards are for a series of images, represented on the Beeb by just one.

Presumably also the criteria for the awards are relevant to the images chosen, not just 'what people like' (they're not all necessarily to my taste). I haven't checked them out, but often the rules for competition entries would totally preclude any stock-type shots.

Thanks for sharing, Liz.  I do really like the Shepard image but the frog shot is really cool, too. If I had to choose I really think the Shepard image tells a story of commitment, culture and a way of life.
