One normal camera and one telephoto lense camera. Combined, it can be used to create depth of field. Could be a great tool for editorial and portraits. At 12MP, it could be good enough for microstock.

It's also going to make it more accessible for new photographers to enter the field.

I watched the keynote.

When they showed the first "dslr" photo, I was saying to my friend that it looks weird, like it hasn't been taken with a dslr, there is noticeable blur spilling near the edges (which is a regular symptom of adding blur), so I wasn't surprised at all when the guy said that it's not a dslr photo, but an iphone one. It was very obvious to anyone who knows how to use a dslr. Or I'm super talented at spotting this kind of detail.

The funniest thing was when they announced that the "lens blur" whill come as a free update later this year. Lol Apple.

Btw, I have a nexus 6p, and its lens blur feature is pretty good as well. But with all these computational approaches, you can never get the same result as with the dslr. Now, will the average consumer notice? Probably not. They won't notice apple's lens blur, they won't notice google's - hell, they probably won't even notice the instagrams tilt-shift added blur. And fine. But saying it's revolutionary and dslr like is a mere marketing stunt. Which is expected from apple.

iphone is merely copycatting other mobile brands now.

Minus the earphone jack, which means a $150 wireless headset to make it play. Thank you Apple again for making your product what the dictators at your company want us to have. User unfriendly except the Mac-nazi's and Chauvinists. This will some day come back at them, like it did to iStock.

Well, not really. It comes with earbuds that plug right into the Lightning port, and an adaptor for regular headphones. The wireless headset is totally optional. The only inconvenience would be charging and listening to wired headphones at the same time, which is not uncommon but easily overcome with bluetooth headphones.

That's right, Huawei will eat them up all for breakfast soon. The P9 already has better specs on what really counts, not to mention the new Huawei Mate series with Leica dual rear cameras, 6 GB of RAM, laser autofocus, OIS, Android 7.0 ... all this for a little more than half of the price of the others.
I forgot, it doesn't explode while charging.

You are assuming the market for mobile phones is about function rather than fashion and an odd devotion to a brand

Yes, that was my assumption, thought I sense in your "voice" that loyalty to a brand (fashion or just snobbism ) is more powerful than logic. I think you are right.

It's about convenience too.  My family has four phones, and as far as I'm concerned the iPhones are very low in maintenance.  I don't have time to do tech-support on four different brands of technology.  Plus the computers, tablets and everything else.

In this case it is understandable but I doubt that you will upgrade all 4 to iPhone 7.

Sorry, my above comments didn't come out right, I left too much room for interpretation. I was talking about new technology and at the rate by which it is advancing, there will be new competitors and winners. Then, sticking to a famous brand, just for the sake of a name is childish, at least.

I never intended to denigrate any brand, iPhone and competitor did a great job back in the past but then they were resting on their laurels. Technology advances so fast and in my comparison I share Artist's opinion in what, yes they (and others) do copy. Lately all that counts for these giants is the fight among each other, so fierce that they forget about the most elementary requirement, consumers' safety (Galaxy Note 7 scandal).

If you look across the board at so called "premium" products its hard to justify the cost in an objective way looking at function....emotion plays a massive part in marketing...

So true, its human nature.
Well, phones are not my favorite toys anyway. I want a Nikon D500, when the price will be right, if DSLR will still exist at that time.

I'm seeing ads hyping this or that new phone as having "DSLR" quality.  Yeah it's a DSLR, folks. Except for the sensor, and the lens, and the viewfinder, and about 100 other things.   It's laughable, but "DSLR" has lost its meaning as an acronym and now just means "good camera".  So step right up, people, put down your money and buy a bottle, it cures anything.

But nowadays nothing actually really happened  unless you have recorded a selfie of you being present...after all being able to tell your Facebook "friends"  you were there is  THE important  thing. http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/35900804/kenyan-woman-edits-herself-into-holiday-photos-with-hilarious-consequences

Yikes! She should send her work to Stocksy to be "curated" :)

Not that I am a luddite, far from it, but in all honesty there is a lot about modern technology I don't understand or even want to. I can't imagine spending my life worried about a lot of these "social" platforms and whether I have "friends" and "likes".

"There's a guy in this coffee shop sitting at a table, not on his phone, not on a laptop, just drinking coffee, like a psychopath." That would be me :)

You are a photographer who doesn't carry a camera while going around town?

I think the new iphone looks good, the colours seem to have improved, it records DNG files and two lenses mean better quality for portraits or even macro.

I will sell my 6s + and get the new one. Only a small difference if I buy it through my provider.

I like that they upgraded the front facing camera to full hd. Will give us better family group videos.

I wonder if somebody will write an app for 360 degree video, if that is possible. Not sure if the cameras on both sides are placed in convenient positions to be able to do that.

I wouldn't underestimate Apple and I'm going to reserve judgement on the photo quality until I get my hands on one. I'm not going to buy a 7 Plus, but I already know a few people who has it pre-ordered, so I'll get my hands on it soon. One of my biggest issues with the iPhone camera was the low light performance and the new camera greatly improves on it.

Though it may not be DSLR or mirrorless quality, editorial doesn't need amazing quality. They appear on websites and low quality newsprint most of the time, so who needs a 28MP photo? If a photographer uses a 7 Plus as their primary tool, nobody is going to take him/her seriously unless they have a serious reputation, but as a side tool, it can be very useful.

Sports Illustrated just posted some photos taken by the iPhone 7 Plus camera and the quality is very good decent.

I doubt either camera covers 180, so it would need more than an app :)  This is a cheap option but the quality might not be great http://www.insta360.com/
