Title: Thomaz Farkas
Post by: madelaide on March 27, 2011, 10:02
Photographer Thomaz Farkas died this week.  Born in Hungary and a naturalized Brazilian, que was one of the photographers that registered the construction and inauguration of our capital Brasíia. He was a modern photographer specialized in urban scenes, a master of B&W, and also a movie and arts producer.

His father co-opened one of the most important photo stores in Brazil, Fotoptica, the first to introduce the 1h-processing in the country. After his father death, Thomaz directed Fotoptica, where he organized photo exhibitions and published Fotoptica magazine, full of photo essays, a magazine I subscribed for years.

Years ago he donated his 30k+ photos to a cultural center that is currently exhibiting some of his work. I hope they bring this to their center in Rio too.

Here are some of his photos:

I like the works of his that were shown in your link. After taking a BW photography class and doing a report on Henri Cartier-Bresson, I have a new respect for black and white photography. It really is amazing how so much emotion and expression can be captured without the use of color. It's all about light and shadows.
