yet again, another really good tilt shift stop motion video

<iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/3548220" width="500" height="300" frameborder="0"></iframe>

make sure to watch it full screen HD.

.... this makes me want a tilt shift lens, or I have wanted one for quite a while but now i want it more again :)  I just haven't found a way to rationalize it yet when other purchases seem to be getting priority.

that's what it was supposed to do.  The video was taken with a tilt shift lens... that is what was cool :)

I like that look since I first saw it , anyway turbo easy to get that look in PS so if someone is interested:

Open a image in PS and make layer duplicate , and apply strong lens blur to upper layer and make a layer mask and invert it to black.
Take white to transparent gradient and apply it on the top and bottom of the mask so that the blur is visible only in those regions but once again it has to be very strong blur.

Then you need to merge the layers and over saturate new layer  (I do it in lab mode)  and you will get that "mini world" tilt shift effect effect.

Yeah that works pretty well but it still won't be perfect.

What Effect, Action or Plugin gives that look of models? I can't imagine him processing all those frames one by one, so it must be a multiple frame batch.

No postprocessing is required... only a tilt-shift lens. I'm still waiting my Canon TS-E 90mm lens.

It's easy to rationalize it if you shoot products or food for microstock: controlling the DOF so precisely will give you some unique photo almost nobody else can produce  ;D

You are saying the bold color, contrast and the vibrant highlights, making the people and everything look like miniatures, are all because of the lens? That seems a little odd? What if someone wants to take normal looking photos with the tilt shift lens?  ??? The photos look processed.

The miniature look (due to shallow DOF) and the highlights (which are bokeh) are indeed the direct result of the tilt-shift lens and you can take a normal photo with such lens because you can adjust the tilt and shift amount: at 0, you have a normal lens.

I don't know however if there is some post-processing concerning the colors and contrasts, but I guess this is only camera settings.

I was confusing the real thing with the photoshop adjust images I've seen that simulate tilt-shift selective depth of field.

1. Add the narrow focus depth of field.
2. Adjust the curves for extreme contrast.
3. Adjust the color saturation up to add to the 'fakeness' look.
3. Slightly adjust the aspect ratio to make the image "just not quite right"

Then there's someone who collected all the sites he could find with tilt-shift work. Pretty nice.

You can indeed mimic some TS effect in Photoshop, but it is quite limited. And the miniature look is not the main purpose of TS lenses: they are really useful to control the DOF in product or macro shots.

Oh darn I though that the tilt shift on those old 8 x 10 view cameras was to create little novelty shots for the latest photo fad. (where's that "terribly sarcastic" little face when I need it?)

I know some architect and design fans. While they talk about how the lens they want is a tilt-shift, the sports guys want a 300mm f/2.8 and the nature folks want a MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x macro. Everyone has some tool that fits what they do best. Nice effect and video.

Thanks to the topic, I went and found the short version of how to do this and tried to find a fast photo that would lend itself to this technique. Not the best, but it did work. That was fun!
