Title: World Press Photo 2010
Post by: madelaide on May 25, 2010, 23:20
Today I saw the exhibition of the winners of World Press Photo 2010.  An impressive collection of photos, presented with detais of the histories behind them.  You can see them online here:

The kingfisher photo - 1st prize in nature, single - is amazing, although the small online version does not look so good.

I think the 3rd place in sports, single is better than the 1st and 2nd in terms of impact - may the others tell a story better, but I think this one is so impressive.  The skater Bob Burnquist, shown in it, is Brazilian.

Interesting to note that the jury also gave a special award for that famous video showing the death of the Iranian protester Neda, acknowledging the importance of a common eye-witness in registering a historical moment.

They say images can not be manipulated - and there was a disqualification because of that - but what about this?  Maybe nothing was retouched in the image content, but the color edition is not just an adjustment, and it helps create a highly impacting photo.

"The content of the image must not be altered. Only retouching which conforms to the currently accepted standards in the industry is allowed."
