Title: .05c paid for images on Getty/istock!
Post by: SherylW on August 12, 2019, 18:11
I discovered yesterday that a few of my images had been bought with my commission being .05c. That has to be a new low and just a token for the photographer and shocking behaviour from Getty  >:(

It's not a 'new low'. These connect sales have been going for years and can earn you much less than that, and often they aggregate to $0.00000 net, literally. Possibly you didn't notice them before (I don't think we actually know if they aggregate to 0)

I had quite a few sales for 1 penny.  I stopped sending any new material to iStock/Getty in 2017. They were my first agency, and were pretty good 8 years ago, but now are a blight on the landscape.  I suggest you also stop giving them any new material to give away.

I'd go further and just get rid of them as an agency their policies are worse than a race to the bottom they crashed thru the floor in to the sub-basement.

They don't give a sh-it about contributors

They mostly sell a completely different set of images than the other agencies.

Also, though there are way too many 2 and 3 cent sales (looking at June 2019, the last month for which they have reported), there are also quite a lot of 85 cent sales.  For the month of June, the AVERAGE royalty per download was 32 cents, which is about the same 36 cents that ShutterStock pays (though half the 62 cents average over all agencies for that month).

These tiny sales are from the Connect scheme which is pay-per-view. They are licensed on a time-limited basis (very limited non-exclusive RM), I've read someone here say the units of sale can be as little as four hours. So that's nothing like a 'normal' RF almost-anything-goes sale. Certainly I've never personally found a file I've only sold under Connect being used online, so it may be fairly rigorously policed (? I have no idea)

To my suprise, I actually found it was true that some of my Connect sales have aggregated to over $5 net in a month - which is considrably more than a normal RF sale on many micro sites. Win some, lose some.

Finally I have it - -0.62$ per image! Now we pay iStock, not vice versa  :o

Because it's number four for sales for me. I find it's the worst site ever to upload to. I guess if you look at the overall picture it averages out but I was disgusted to see the .05c sales which are just a joke really. I'll give it another couple of months and see what happens. I only discovered the individual photo commissions I received after downloading the Microstockr app. Which would be brilliant if it had Alamy and Adobe Stock as well.

I don't upload anything new, I left what they had already  to reap the huge profits, something like $5 a month now.  ::) Once the biggest and best, look where they are now. Look at what artists think of them. Look at the games they played with Thinkstock, the contracts, and now partner sales, or contract specials, so small that we are insulted to take them.

Why anyone would upload anything new is a complete mystery.

Desperate people who will take pennies for their work, talk about willing victims who participate in abuse. That's some of the agencies now.

For me its less than SS similar to Adobe and more than most of the tiddlers. RPD doesn't matter to me total earnings does and in this they are normally third.
