Three or four in a lifetime would be my way of looking at it!

I'm sure I'd be happy with some of his 'not significant' ones :)

Yes, I remember that from my very first fledgeling days of learning Ansel's Zone VI technique.
Literally worshipped everything the man said , and did.
I also remember Henri Cartier Bresson, the father of "decisive moment".
And speaking of the first thousand images are your worst, and 12 significant images per month, ...
it astounds me whenever someone tells me they could produce 1000 acceptable images in a month.
Oh well, there is Monsieur Cartier-Bresson and Mr. Adams, and there is "the men with their incredible shooting machine"

one from the MacDonald's we serve millions per day ... ;)

Funny, that's what I said to my boss in the 80's when he told me he had met and worked with Ansel when my boss, an engineer , was working in Polaroid.
I told him if he had kept any of the polaroids that Ansel threw away in the trashcan, he wouldn't have had to run his own photo store in Ottawa, lol.
Ansel Adams. They (ie. the Creator of geniuses) sure don't make photographers like that too often ! 8)

EDITED

needless to say, those 12 significant photos per annum from Ansel Adams would be like my 12 significant photos in my whole lifetime.

let's just say some ppl edit their work more critically than others. much like jazz or classical musicians vs "musicians" with beat boxes and guitars "tuned from the factory".

Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst
That's true...
