Title: 1000 Image Rule
Post by: mj007 on November 18, 2018, 13:20
I read this all the time, is this new site any good. This is what I have been doing for a few years to test out sites. Yes I have tried almost all of them.( Most of the sites are losers) I do what I call picture mining. Kind of like testing for gold in thoir hills. I put 1000 images on a site in a two month time frame. If I have not had any sells in three months I drop the site. If I have one or two sells I will let it run for a couple of months more and then if no more sales I will conclude the site is useless. Just an idea for anyone interested.

Sounds like a lot of work for nothing!

Not for nothing if the results are forthcoming.  :)

The other factor is time to upload If I can fire them off on FTP and forget thats one thing but spending extra time on Meta data is a no no.

About 90 % of the new sites are losers for not selling but 10% do sell. Yes lots of work but less work than taking the pictures as they are in the can and ready to go. I still wonder if some of these little sites actually record true what they sell. If they are on the true and blue I really don't see how they can stay in business.

I know a guy on Panther-media, he's got around a thousand shots there and collects around 400 bucks a month from that agency. Now who would have thought Panther-Media could come up with something like that??

Same port is at SS and he barely gets a payout!, didnt get it this month!

Chosing any agency is just a shot in the dark! luck of the draw nowaday!

Loser for someone is a winner for someone else.

I've really struggled with Canstock, Canva, Picfair (until first sale yesterday), Creative Market,123rf  but have had OK results at BS, DT. These small sites only make at most 5-10% of my total revenue. If I had to upload manually I wouldn't bother.

I think 2 months is too little.

Two months may be to little time . I have left images on some of these small sites for a couple years and still no sales. So for me the two months rule is my test  sample hole. I was also on Panther for maybe three years with 2000 images and virtually no sales. Maybe I just need a new lens.

once you upload that many images you might as well leave them there---I've had big sales come from Canstock or other smaller companies after several months of no sales...

Call me paranoid but if I don't get sales I just don't trust the small agencies/sites. I have left some of my images for a year or so and still no sales. The same is not true for the big agencies as I do get  good sales from time to time. I still like to experiment/mining on the little ones as sometimes , not often you find a little gold. Canstock is one that I do get small sales, maybe 15-40 bucks a month.

I have left my portfolio at 4 agencies, SS, DT and DP! havent uploaded for a year, I am only active and uploading to Adobe/Ft and Istock!....youre right though in the sense that smaller agencies are quite useless!

I have left my portfolio at 4 agencies, SS, DT and DP! havent uploaded for a year, I am only active and uploading to Adobe/Ft and Istock!....youre right though in the sense that smaller agencies are quite useless!

I started a year and a half ago with (photos): DT, 123, Almy, SS, IS, AS and Cva. I do not upload anymore: DT, 123. Rare sales with Cva and Almy, by cons, big sales on ALMY ...

My top (for $) is IS, followed by SS, AS and Almy.

I occasionally sell 4k videos on SS and Pd5 (and I contribute on AS, Pd5, SS and StoryB). No sales of videos on AS and StoryB.

I keep SS only because I sell videos, my average RDP on this site is the worst of all.

This month, I sold a video on SS (around $ 50), no sales of photos since? AS, a big sale of $ 94, no sales of photos since ...

...
