For interests sake and perhaps to glean some useful information I have created a comprehensive survey for the 2008 year.
http://microstocksurvey.com/index.php?sid=13871
After a week or two (or three, depending on how fast the results come in) I will share the results so we can all look and hopefully learn something. So please pass along the link. The more info we get the more useful the results will be.
I tried to keep the survey short while at the same time including enough useful questions. I'm not sure if I succeeded, I guess we will have to see how many people respond and how the numbers turn out. I can't add any more questions now, but if you think I missed something, feel free to mention it and perhaps it will be put in the 2009 survey :)
and yes, I know I am a bad speller. If there is anything really glaring you can say that too and i'll try and fix it... hopefully it is readable though.

How many percent of your total income is from microstock photography
should read
What percentage of your total income is earned from microstock photography
-
Thanks, yes that was much better. I fixed the wording.
-
And why reducing it to "photography"? I earn 90% from 3D graphics ... (This includes the question why according to the logo MSG is a place for "microstock photographers" but not for render artists, illustrators etc. :))
-
yeah... i thought about that, and was going to have a question about how much of the portfolio was illustration but didn't in the end, just hoped that everyone would just bunch it all together. That is the problem with polls - there is always a level of ambiguity in the questions.
I was hoping / thinking that there is sort of a complication of terms and it is just sort of understood that when one talks about microstock photography that we are also including illustration.
istockphoto is after all called istockphoto, shutterstock, Fotolia... etc, but of course we all know that they sell illustrations and that probably a very large portion of their income (and database) has nothing to do with photography....

Adelaide, I remember my first French class in 2002 when I moved to Montreal, Madame said,
"hello I am your new French teacher, don't ask my age, we stop counting after 35".
-
tan,
So I'd better stop counting! ;D
-
once last bump for this for those who hadn't seen it yet.
we are up to 150 responders so far so it looks like we will have a decent amount of data to look at.
-
added my 2 cents :)

The outgoing N2M links seemed to be good so I hope you got enough info! :)
-
The results will be out later this week... last chance to vote is now.
-
What happened to the results?
-
ahhhhh... yes, I think about them every day and put myself through a guilt trip. I have been a little busy lately :( I really hope to post them soon.
