Post by: leaf on February 23, 2012, 11:31
There isn't a whole lot of info here, but it looks like 500px is wanting to try their hand at stock and/or print sales

I signed up 8 months ago but haven't uploaded anything.  Will they have watermarks?  I don't like uploading my stock portfolio without them.

This looks like another player wanting to stick their toes in the water without really knowing where the water is.

looks like its available now, just went over to "buy" the most popular picture

1 - You are buying a HD Download for $2.99. Remember, it is for personal use only. If you have any questions about the licence, please read the licence information.

2 - You are buying a 24 by 36 inch (landscape) Gallery Wrapped Canvas Print for $500.00. Your purchase includes an HD Download. Remember, it is for personal use only. If you have any questions about the licence, please read the licence information. Your canvas print will arrive in 7-14 business days.

3 - The prices are set, and cannot be changed.

4 - Canvas prints - Includes a digital copy of the photo. You get 70% of amount collected after printing costs have been paid off.
5 - HD downloads - You get 70% from every print, and $2.00 from every HD download you sell on the 500px Market.

6 - no IPTC

7 - you have to upload your own watermark

The site and how it works.

Kinda like FAA but you dont do any pricing it is all set already.

So how do you upload after you have browsed and found a pic?

There is nothing that says upload to click on?

Do you have to do all twenty or what?

weird but its true, working here, last version of firefox, I don´t think you can upload the picture with watermark on it, it won´t be cool to sell a pic with it lol I guess you need to upload the watermark itself, you will see what I am saying when you enable your store

p.s: you need upload one with watermark and one without

both JPG (they need to be at least 3600px along the longest side) I will email them to see if I did it the right way

p.s: the first image you upload will be the one users/buyers/whatever will see which means if you upload with watermark, you will need to upload a second one without it

the site does look awesome, pretty cool place to show your work but the 2.99$ seem very very cheap :/

Yes but that is a one time HD DL for personal use.

I looked at the site, read the rather brief personal use license ([ur=http://500px.com/terms/download_license.pdfl]here[/url]). Seems to me that there is no way that you could ever police this. It's bad enough with the micros, but here you're not even selling to another business.

I think for people who have stuff on Flickr and might like to sell one or two, this seems like a fine idea. For anyone who actually has microstock income, (i.e. you have something to lose if people buy a full size image for $2.99 and then use it commercially) I can't see much upside (prices are too cheap and I don't see a huge new audience this site brings to the table) and there's a big potential downside.

right, I tweet about the low price and they replied asking what I think would be fair and I said 4.99$ thinking of the 70% royalties and the personal use only, if it goes other place beside personal its pretty crappy..

It might be a good place for the non microstock stuff.  I might upload some exclusively there, then it should be easy to see if the personal license is being abused.  Might not be a big earner but it's nice to have another outlet.
