Last year,we have asked image agencies for their take on the upcoming photography trends for 2014, and many of the 50 stock photo trends we published were spot on.
2015, we are going even further: 16 agencies replied to our request for their trends in photography, so we are presenting the top 80 photography trends 2015 and of course shooting ideas for photographers (some of them might surprise you).
Here are the 80 Surprising Stock Photography Trends 2015 (http://www.stockphotosecrets.com/buyers-guide/photography-trends.html)

What do you think about them? Do you think the certain stock agencies are right with their trends?
-
No surprises as far as I can tell
-
Many of the 50 were spot on.
If you list every possible trend in the market, surely you will get a few right.

All we do is asking the certain stock agencies for their trends. We always try to have a diversity in the type of agency such as Photocase or Stocksy compared with Asian based like Pixta.

so, which is it, will some of us surprise us, or are there 80 surprising ones? aaaaaanyway...
clickbait.
try again in 2016.

Why all the nastiness?
Is the OP clickbaiting us? Absolutely. Is he actually offering something of value to us? Absolutely, if you keep an open mind about it. Sure, some of it may be obvious, but the list is a good summary about trends and styles that are in high demand right now. Nobody was harmed by looking at it, and in fact it may even influence what you shoot and upload in the near future, whether you want to admit it or not.
The OP is a smart business person, out to boost his business just like all of us are. I look at this forum to keep tabs on what's happening in the industry, so I'm thankful he put the list together and offered it here. I didn't sign up for his newsletter, but maybe now I will, just to counter the hate some of the others here are sending his way.
Thanks for posting, Amos.

Nastiness, hate?
If those comments are expressing hate, you need to look up the meaning of hate ...
intense dislike.
"feelings of hate and revenge"
synonyms: loathing, hatred, detestation, dislike, distaste, abhorrence, abomination, execration, resentment, aversion, hostility, ill will, ill feeling, bad feeling;
-
The trends are not surprising it is the usual round up of "vintage, retro ORsome!" of twee looking back to vintage retro orsome times past that seems to have captivated today's marketing types. ;)
Plus seniors (old frikkin people or pensioners) in youthful scenarios again they've been banging that old baby boomer drum for years now ::)
and dirty food shot in pseudo rustic french kitchens with prep areas that look like a bomb went off in the ingredient bin.
Rustic people are such messy eaters hahaha. ;D
Yeah same old same old keeping it real (NOT!)
Dull unimaginative herd mentality with not an original concept in the whole bunch :-*

I enjoyed looking at the list and the ideas. I'd agree with you Pauws99 - not surprised at all by any of them. I do appreciate Amos collecting the information and making this list.
80? EIGHTY? It's like picking who will win the world series of baseball and including all 30 of the teams. Then saying afterwards, we had it right...
Amos, cut the list down, don't make it so big. Top 40 maybe? Top 20? You might as well have had the top 100, because it's meaningless as anything 'Surprising" when it's all inclusive.
Good reading.
No surprises as far as I can tell

The thing that surprises me is what of my stuff sells or otherwise if it didn't I guess I'd be richer :-\.
-
I think the images are spot on. It's not just 80 different images at all. I absolutely see a certain trend and if you put all the images together it's like a fashion storyboard. I think he did a very nice job putting those images together and I think people should learn to 'look' at them. It will make a big difference once you 'get it'.

Maybe you look at it different than I do. But I don't see anyone trying to claim something would be "right" or "wrong" at the end. It's about sharing observations from different perspectives.
I see a list of 16 agencies, each predicting which images their customers are likely to use in the near future. I don't submit to all of these agencies, so I'm mostly interested in what five of those places have to say. And most likely that is the result for everyone reading it, except that we all pick different three or five places that we are most interested in.
Also I find it interesting to compare to last year's list. It seems some trends are trickling down from the "more trendy" agencies to the "mainstream agencies" with a year or two delay. So there is some kind of sorting within the list by itself. It might change my ideas about what to upload where over time.

Nice article. Informative. Thanks for posting here.

I think the info of what have more selling potential from each agency is the key of the article.

Yes that's what I thought, I just wasn't "Surprised" and I'm looking for trends, not everything under the Sun. Good reading, should help people with ideas for things they may have ignored or passed by.

Thanks Amos Struck:
All I do is aerial photos and aerial mapping ( vertical photos) with a few in microstock . But your examples in those type of photos gave me all kinds of ideas of what to take that would sell in stock. I guess you can teach a old dog new tricks.

Glad you got some inspiration from the trends. There are several really good images, especially the one from Yuri which was shot with the drone.
-
in a nutshell ... stock photographers are getting better at copying the style and concepts of the high-end commercial photographers while using cheaper gear and keeping production costs low.

63. Photos that Don’t Look Like Stock
THis is the reply you get when you submit stuff like that
the image is not within our standards.
does not provide enough commercial utility

which one's that, is there a link for it? Would love to see "Yuri with a drone"! Maybe I am missing something her or was just too flat-out stupid to find it...
Thanks ;)

It's nice to have the list so thank you, OP, for that.
But in no way is it "surprising". That was obviously a marketing ploy for the title. Now if you were to tell me that foot fetishes was a trend, I would be surprised ;D

* thats my niche blown wide open :-\

Tell me something I don't know

Is there an image that wouldn't fall into one of those 80 categories?

Looking at the top-selling photos and concepts from different agencies can be inspirational for those of us who don't think we know it all.
(I know this was originally posted in March but I guess there were a few new comments so glad it popped up when I looked for new "unread content") Thanks Amos.

You are most welcome - happy to help with some inspiration here.

Indeed the "surprising" was a bit of a clickbait... :P
