Title: A list of partner programs
Post by: Sadstock on April 06, 2011, 17:08
In the short time that I’ve been reading the MSG I’ve noticed that people are constantly asking who is this company, how did they get my images and are they legit?  Generally it turns out to be a partner of some sort, but there is no central list of partners, so I thought I’d start one.

I’m going to classify as a partner anyone that has a relationship with a microstock company that results in that company appearing to have our images for sale or use.

I’ve listed the micros that I’ve been following, and the partners that I’ve identified (or have been suggested/claimed to be a partner), with a link to a confirmation or at least a discussion of the partner and its relationships to one of the micros.  I’m not following everyone and I’m sure I’ve missed lots of stuff, so I’d welcome your input.

1-27-13 - Sorry not to update sooner, but I'm no longer able to post process/upload stock (wrist problems) so I don't come here all that often.  Given that its 10 months since my last update and I could only find 2 new items to add, not sure that I'll make any more updates to this list.

Wow, that is an awesome list, sadstock. You did a lot of work.

I have an addition to BigStock, as I found my images there. Feel free to add to your list.
It's called frontfoto... here is the link   http://image.qianwenhua.com/ (http://image.qianwenhua.com/)     it is a china-based company

cool.

canstock is owned by fotosearch so not really a partner.

panther has page full of partners
http://www.panthermedia.net/index.php?page=cms%2Fpages%2Fdisplay2.php&cms_id=196&select_language=en (http://www.panthermedia.net/index.php?page=cms%2Fpages%2Fdisplay2.php&cms_id=196&select_language=en)

I thought fotolia let you opt out, I remember a while asking if I could opt out of one specific one and they said all or nothing

Age Photostock has got some of mine from Panther Media but not from Fotolia, so I wonder if the Fotolia connection is still valid (they don't seem to put micro agency names on the search page, just marking anything from a micro as a budget price image, you can see the agency if you open the thumbnail).

I sent a copyright infringement notice after seeing my image on a site called allfreelogo.com. They replied they were an affiliate of Dreamstime. I have no idea if this is true, the website does look odd and what it offers isn't quite clear to me.

I'd check that with DT.  It looks as if they have harvested major company logos so you can download them for use in projects - e.g. if you are doing a design job for a local franchise of that company. The appearance suggests that they make their money from referral links, so why DT would be associated with anything like that is a mystery.

thank you for the hard work. way more than I would have guessed. it would be even more valuable to see a profile for each site...not suggesting you should do that work too, but would help to know how much or little 'space' each partner site takes up in the industry.

Thanks for making it a sticky, hope its helpful to people.  Feel free to add it to the wiki as well.

The BS secrecy that most of the micros wrap their partner programs in pisses me off, so let's share it around.  Honestly does anybody think that if a micro wanted to duplicate DT or FT's partner program it would take them more than a day to find all of them?  Really?  All it does is make it hard for contributors to know where their images are and if they are being paid correctly.

I don't understand that either.

Usually they say it takes 60 days to get images off of partner programs, but since everything is electronic, I am fascinated as to why it takes that long to walk over to the computer, look up a persons account, and delete it. I may have oversimplified a tad, and I understand that people have other work to do, but I can't understand why accounts can't be deleted and images stopped from moving to partner programs within a week or two. Maybe someone has a detailed explanation as to the exact steps that are required for deleting a person's account from a computer and how the API software works? Or is that a national security secret?  ;)

Not a Partner as such but 123RF also sell through their parent site Inmagine.com. What's interesting is that Inmagine are now also selling editorial images from 123RF. This is pretty new I think as they weren't last time I looked (in fact their Contributor faq page still says that they do not take editorial). Could be one reason why I have had an increasing number of editorial sales at 123 recently. Regards, David.

Nice work.

I didn't see if someone answered, but SS does not partner images to BigStock. It's a fully owned division. People can Opt. in, via "the bridge" or choose not to, but we can also upload to BigStock and then have the same thing. Images aren't in a partner program like the normal way the term is used.

Interesting list and hopefully it will grow as new partners are discovered.

Agreed not a partner program, but still think they should be on the list for completeness sake.  Maybe change the name of this thread to "a list of places your images could show up without having uploaded them there directly."   ;D

Correct, the One Way bridge does go from SS to BigStock. Also it's only done with the prior approval of SS asking and the artist saying yes. But still, it's good to make a note that pictures from SS do appear on BigStock, in case someone forgets they said OK you can move my pictures.  ;D

The rest of them, are often a mystery and the agencies don't list who they partner with. My answer was easy. Drop all of them and go with only SS & IS and their partners, so I know how my pictures got out on the web. Two is easier to figure out. Might be an old age thing in my case?

A good list, keep it going.

Well I know. Current status:

Pixmac is currently reselling: DepositPhotos, YayMicro and one agency that requested not to be mentioned (termination notice was published, but we're re-negotiation the contract now). FT was terminated on Dec 31st 2010. BigStock was at Pixmac for about 14 days after which contributors found out it is a BigStock content (we've not been told by the supplier).

That site is just providing links to Dreamstime though,.. they aren't selling from the site directly.  They aren't really selling Dreamstime's images any more than I am selling them in this thread with the image below.

In my email correspondence back and forth to DT regarding the removal of my images, this site was referred to as a partner. Maybe they aren't. Maybe they are. Maybe they aren't now but will be? Not sure.

This same thing is true of many of the sites here listed as partners with Dreamstime. - morguefile.com , picfindr.com, etc.. They are referral sites that use the referral API and they drive traffic to the main site. That's all they do. But it is apparently possible to opt out of this.

Talking about partner programs....

What bothered me most is that some "partners" would use my real name instead of my "member name" which is my pseudonym in microstock.

Some of the sites corrected that, but others I have no idea how they put the credit. In any case, I always opt out of partner programs...but sometimes I wonder if I should join istock Partner program.

Looks like its from Bigstock to me as WebStockPro's images of mine match best to what I've uploaded on Bigstock, but the file numbers are different.  I'm also not attributed as the photographer, instead it lists "Value Stock Images" as the "Publisher".

I found some images I recognized there - Lisa Young, Paul Cowan, Sandra Cunningham - so I assume it's one of the micros.

Webstockpro is nutty and pretty scary – they have a list of sources for their files here http://www.webstockpro.com/Content/content-license.aspx (http://www.webstockpro.com/Content/content-license.aspx) but it does not contain any micros.

If you try and license a micro file from them, the licensing agreement https://www.webstockpro.com/Content/LicenseFiles/Value%20Stock%20Images.pdf (https://www.webstockpro.com/Content/LicenseFiles/Value%20Stock%20Images.pdf) indicates “This is a legal agreement (“Agreement”) between Licensee (as defined below) and Unlisted Images, Inc. (“Licensor”). “ It also notes that “Any dispute, controversy, or claim between the parties arising out of or related to this Agreement shall be settled before the Circuit Court of Waukesha County, Wisconsin, U.S.A.”

If you go to http://www.unlistedimages.com/ (http://www.unlistedimages.com/) it is a stock company but seems to be no longer in operation.  The page is copyrighted in 2008 and I could not find a way to actually see any content.  Their phone number is 408-215-1530 which is a Sunnyvale, California number.  I could not find a street address.

Bizarrely Reflexstock has the same license agreement as Webstockpro does if you try to license a micro image from them, indicating that you are licensing from Unlisted Images, Inc. and any disputes must be resolved in Waukesha County, Wisconsin.

Reflexstock however is part of Ingram as its mailing address is Ingram Publishing, 26 - 28 Hammersmith Grove, London, W6 7BA, UK.

My content on both Webstockpro and Reflexstock appear to be identical and the image numbers are the same, but don't match the bigstock numbers for those files.

YIKES!!!- Anyone want to email or call them both to find out who provides them with micro content?

The copyright info I quoted is the copyright for the page as in "We created this page".  There is a separate copyright on each page crediting the artist for the stock photo on that page.

I also could not find any of MY images on the site, so even if they were not crediting the artist, it would not bother ME if they were not crediting MY images.  It would bother ME that they were not crediting OTHERS copyright if they were doing that, but since they are crediting OTHERS, I'M OK with it.   ;D

Updated to add that this thread http://www.microstockgroup.com/canstockphoto-com/reflexstock-with-canstock-photos/ (http://www.microstockgroup.com/canstockphoto-com/reflexstock-with-canstock-photos/) 123RF confirms that they partner with Reflexstock.  Still no explanation of why the sample license indicates the license is from  Unlisted Images, Inc

Canstockphoto also contributes but they don't confirm in the above thread.

Thanks for this very useful list, Sadstock -- awesome work! With Google Chome's image search, I'm finding my vectors all over the net, but what I found on Webstockpro.com is worth noting here.

http://www.webstockpro.com/Value+Stock+Images/40431073.Uninvited-Picnic-Guests-Photo/ (http://www.webstockpro.com/Value+Stock+Images/40431073.Uninvited-Picnic-Guests-Photo/)

I'm upset because:
1. the image has no copyright to me, it just says: Publisher: Value Stock Images, and
2. There's no watermark!

I contacted webstockpro.com and quickly got this reply:

Dear Lisa,
We are affiliate of Value Stock (Fotosearch.com).
If we get photographer credit/copyright from them we will show it.
Best
Noam

So, going down your list, Sadstock, I see that Fotosearch owns Canstockphoto, but you added Value Stock Images to Fotolia. My port is on both Canstockphoto and Fotolia. I have contacted Fotolia first and I'm waiting for an answer.

Another observation: When an agency subs your images to another agency, and that one subs to another, and so on and so on, how the heck does the original creator ever get paid our few pennies? The whole thing is very disconcerting to me.

My best to all my fellow stockers, Lisa

http://www.freepik.com/ (http://www.freepik.com/)

When I search, I see my images come up in the Shutterstock results and link properly goes to Shutterstock.

But, then there's that free section below and clicking on a few there's no copyrights on the images. Someone had to create these images!

Hi Lisa. We do partnerships like that. I guess in all cases the contracts don't allow resellers to further resell the content. It would make the original site as unhappy as you.

A search at Freepik.com turned up sponsored results for Shutterstock as you noted and if you click on an image, it takes you directly to SS.  If you click on the free download link, you end up at Stock.xchng.com where you can download the content and there are links to similar images at Istock.  Basically the free images are a way to draw in people looking for stock images and upsell them.  My understanding based on this thread http://www.microstockgroup.com/stockxpert-com/if-sxc-hu-were-to-close/ (http://www.microstockgroup.com/stockxpert-com/if-sxc-hu-were-to-close/) is that Stock.xchng was part of StockXpert and is now part of Getty, which is why the similar images takes you to Istock.  A search in Stock.xchng turned up my images for sale at Istock.  So I’ll add Stock.xchng to the list of Istock partners.  I’m not going to add this to SS as since it is a sponsored placement and next week the sponsor could be DT or FT

Good grief! I had no idea there were so many ways to slice a pie. You'd think our businesses would be booming with all that exposure.

When I look at  FT, DT and 123RF, I'm happy I dropped them. These places are shooting out everything all over and I wouldn't know who or what the heck is going on. Does all this shotgun distribution actually make more sales. It doesn't seem to mean much? Anyone getting sales or reports from all these places? Out of control comes to mind. Booming is just what someone would expect with all these sites?

IS is in the middle of this because while it used to be opt out, they just changed to "we'll do what we want, no choice" but they only sell to them self, so hopefully that means someone is watching the henhouse, besides the fox?

Then we look at SS and BigStock combination, the best selling site and, hmm, no mysterious partners who we can't track.

It's possible that i miss something earlier...

Although I opt-in PP on all agencies, something is bothering me regarding Pixmac:

a) There is some kind of criteria choosing which photos are available for partners? I ask it, because even without a "Dream Portfolio" ( so far... ) I have the worst images possible on sale at pixmac.

b) After a look at 1ª post, it seems that most agencies cut off relations with Pixmac. The few images that I've on Pixmac, I am sure that some are only available on an ex-partner... If the partnership ended, the photos should not be removed?

I don't know how Pixmac decides which images to take and which not from a given agency.  It may be that the agency applies its own criteria and only gives Pixmac a subset of its images, which might explain why only some of your images are available.

As to why some your images still appear on Pixmac, I have heard that there is a synching issue with many partners where the agency or a contributor removes an image, but the thumbnail of that image lives on for some time at partner sites.  When somebody attempts to purchase the image from the partner, they are told it is no longer available.

The guy from Pixmac is often active in the forum here and you might be able to ask him your questions directly.

Hi CoisaX and Sadstock,
I'm the guy from Pixmac ;-)

We have several partners on our site. Some are microstock agencies, some are traditional RF agencies. We've only discontinued reselling of two microstock agencies during our existence. Since that time, we've already reached a larger partner portfolio than ever before.

And always, we only re-sell images if we have the right to do so. We always try to get all images from the particular source/partner site, so there's definitely not a system that picks only 'some' images. The only situation that comes to my mind is that for some reason we've not finished uploading all the photos to our database or there's some other individual issue.

In case there is any particular problem with any of your photos/ports at Pixmac. Feel free to ask Lucy [email protected] for the explanation and clarification about what we have and don't from a particular agency. We're usually pretty quick.

And also, we never have hi-res files from the partner upfront. So it's not possible to re-sell any partner sourced images at Pixmac in case the partnership is terminated. It's all connected via API, so the partner agency has full control over that.

Now that You mention "hi-res files" I start to understand what happens. I will email Lucy and explain my situation.

Start getting tired of "PP syncro issues":

- Partner says that is main agency problem.
- Main agency says that are a Partner issue.
- Both want and will solve the problem.

The true is that no one sales month after month.

One specific partner with 2 specific micro agencies. I'm keeping it private because partner  "demand it" for a fast resolution in backstage, without unnecessary discussion over it ( i think ).

And probably there more contributors, like me, that could get a bit more if PP issues could be solved fast.

Just saw this on BigStock forum. (yeah one of the four people who look there every month...)  ;)

http://www.crystalgraphics.com/ (http://www.crystalgraphics.com/)

Crystal Graphics is an authorized Bigstock reseller. When/if an image sells at their site, the earnings go into your Bigstock account. They also purchase the image from you to post it to their site at the onset.

I'm still kind of confused. If they purchase it, why do they pay when it sells? A reseller could display for nothing and pay when it sells. I'm lost?

Anyway, you might want to add it to the list, in case someone finds something of theirs up on Crystal Graphics

One is Yaymicro. Moreover, they add more agencies to API and none of my 540 images appear to be in almost all of them. My hope for Yaymicro was get some sales trough PP ( direct sales is out of question because it seems they don't have any clients/traffic... ).

One I find baffling is that I saw all my images on masterfile (via crestock) the other day.
I always though masterfile was a pretty major player, but there is barely any sales on crestock and I think my highest sales there are about $3-$4 ($50 on masterfile and I get 30%), going to watch it as it seems that they never sell on masterfile?

Profimedia lists my portfolio (http://www.profimedia.cz/creative/search/photographer/PC-0128468216) there as 4,129 which is amusing as I don't have that number of images anywhere.

They have images from 123rf, Alamy (both RM and RF) and Veer. You can check the alamy fairly easily via the list of sources on the left side; you can see Veer from the watermark, but they aren't in the list on the left. None of the Corbis names (Ivy, blue, ...) bring up the Veer images.

They don't list Inmagine, or 123rf but by looking at CanStock (which sends content to its parent company Fotosearch) and 123rf portfolios, I was able to pretty clearly see it was 123rf. I haven't uploaded since early 2012 to 123rf, whereas CanStock, Alamy are up to date. Veer images are marked and I only have 800+ there.

This is such a mess (a) because they have multiple copies of the same image and (b) because they're at different prices.

One (http://www.profimedia.cz/fotografie/fallen-red-maple-leaves-line-the-edge/0128962138/), two (http://www.profimedia.cz/fotografie/fallen-red-maple-leaves-line-the-edge/0141117161/), three (http://www.profimedia.cz/fotografie/fallen-leaves-line-road/0111281747/).

The price for the largest size ranges from 200 Czech crowns to 600 to 9,100 depending on which copy you buy (~$11 to ~ $33 to ~$500)

If I swtich the language from Czech to English (using the site's option to do so, not Google translate), some of the copies of the image stay around and one says

"Object id 0141117161 was deleted"

So I guess they only have rights from some of their suppliers to sell it in certain markets? I can switch to Hungarian for that image and it still shows. This explains why my portfolio size there is only 2K+ images if I set the site to English.
I suppose it's not entirely my problem that they're doing this and my name doesn't appear anywhere - I'm just artist PC-0128468216! But it just looks so stupid and I hate to see my work on a site that looks stupid.

For the item with the Veer watermark, the prices in crowns translate to $2.75 for the small size and $33 for the largest which is reasonably close to the $2 to $30 that Veer charges for that item (http://marketplace.veer.com/stock-photo/Fallen-leaves-line-road-4049913)

The more I learn about these partner deals the less I like them. And why would a buyer shop there given what a total shambles the "store" is?

Hi does it mean the 'gamma illustrations' are from panthermedia?

I saw my image are under that collections too, web price $159 to xl $399, how much one can get from this partner sales?

Is GlowImages or a supplier called "Gamma Illustrations" affiliated with a big agency? I noticed this supplier has supplied one of my images (with my name below it) to GlowImages.

http://www.glowimages.com/ (http://www.glowimages.com/)

Supplier Gamma Illustrations (featured as a 'collection' on GlowImages):
http://www.glowimages.com/index.cfm?/supplierinfo_EN&supplierUUID=IMSSUPPLIER:996A95B0-D485-6454-EA44491555143BC8 (http://www.glowimages.com/index.cfm?/supplierinfo_EN&supplierUUID=IMSSUPPLIER:996A95B0-D485-6454-EA44491555143BC8)

Edit: I sitemailed them, this particular collection is due to a contract with PantherMedia. They also have a contract with 123RF.

In the list in the first post I have seen that Shutterstock has BigStock as partner.
I have my portfolio on Shutterstock and almost the same portfolio on BigStock.

So the question is: does it have some sense to opt in for partners on Shutterstock?

Another useful info to add IMHO in the 1st post/list, right below 'opt out: yes/no" would be if the agency shows the income from partners (Yes/No). So, if you get to know how much did you make from partners.

Have a great Sunday.

I found my images at Vector Backgrounds (http://vector-background.com/author/Jo%20Ann%20Snover), and apparently they are a partner of some sort with Shutterstock?

http://vector-background.com/ (http://vector-background.com/)

Their pricing links just go to Shutterstock as do any download links - so other than a coupon code for 10% off, it's not clear why they exist.

Does anyone know anything about them? Is this just a link farm/referral fee farm?

Title: Re: A list of partner programs

Exactly Right Tom!

We have lost control of our work. We don't know where it goes, who's distributing it, or for how much. It seems like almost everything is a SUB, so no payment relative to the final use, AT ALL! That's assuming all DLs and licenses are accurately reported.

I have tried to distance myself from these places with hundreds of partners. And they still have partners? The two left are SS and IS, and they have some deals, but nothing close to FT, DT, 123, and DP?

It doesn't take long to see a post every few days. "My photos are for sale on xyz-stock" and I wonder if they are stolen or a partner site. We let me answer... Both!  ??? People have uploaded and now lost any control over their work. And talk about competing with yourself? Anyone who wants can make a contract and has the collection from 123RF (for example) and as long as they pay some low, low, volume price per DL, they own all our work. No reviews, little overhead, small staff, just sell and skim the cream off the top.

And that reminds me, why I have to repeat, this is a great idea for a Subject and Thread. Trying to make sense and track some of these people.

What it comes down to is: it costs an agency money to hire more sales and marketing people, and to translate and maintain the site in all the world's languages.  But, they hear from someone who says he thinks he can do it.  They say - great! You create a site, we'll give you access to the images, and if you sell anything you get a commission - and it won't cost us a thing, because your commission comes out of the contributor's royalties.  And we justify it by calling you a "partner" as per our Weasel-Terms Of Service (WTOS).

Odd, if I try to go to ib.net, it takes me to ib.com? How does a site get images from a partner? This is strange if "Rusmediabank sells my images. They say they have it from Imagebroker..." where do they get them from if they aren't an agency, but are a reseller?  Someone please explain, I think I'm missing something.

imageBROKER: Partner for top photographers, illustrators and stock agencies

imagebroker.net

And I'll go re-check what I thought I saw on  ShotShop.

Absolutly, I'm Wrong. ShotShop has no file numbers and names, Ibudgetphoto does. I adjusted the above message as well.

Also: I couldn't find one of my files on ShotStop but I found many on Ibudget which threw me a little. Sorry about the added confusion.

This garbage is getting way out of control. Really frustrated with these partner programs and API distributions recently.

I'd say this is the single most damaging practice going on in stock today. It's also the biggest motivating factor in my goal for the year of starting to expand my work outside of microstock. Forget the pricing "race to the bottom", 15-20% royalties, even the getty embeded viewer, I think this right here is where it's at when we're talking about industry killers. These programs have already proven to be capable of reducing our royalty percentages to single-digit figures. Not to mention what other nefarious things could be going on, like sales going completely unreported (which I suspect is highly likely).

Can someone please explain me how this partner programs works?
Title: Re: A list of partner programs
Post by: Jo Ann Snover on September 14, 2015, 15:04
Can someone please explain me how this partner programs works?

Agencies do deals with companies that want to offer stock images but don't have any relationship with suppliers (i.e. us). They offer their library and there's a split of the money the buyer pays between the partner/distributor company and the agency that accepted our uploads.

Some agencies share the money they receive from the parter according to their royalty schedule. Alamy's like that. Buyer pays distributor $150; distributor pays Alamy $90; Alamy pays contributor 50%, same as always, but it's 50% of $90 ($45) not 50% of what the buyer paid ($75).

Some agencies (like Veer) pay you a fixed amount per download regardless of what the partner charged the buyer, which is sometimes a lot more than the price paid via Veer. Veer also won't give contributors a list of the companies they partner with or let contributors opt out of partner sales  (why I left Veer. IMO it's a terrible arrangement for contributors).

Some, at least until they get caught (Deposit Photos) let a distributor pay a subscription price (and give the contributor a subscription royalty) and the distributor charges a substantial credit price, pocketing a huge amount for themselves.

One of the scenarios that seems too bizarre to be real was where 123rf had its own parent company, Inmagine, hosting images as a "partner" site - they had some claim that it was because of the way the two businesses were structured. Bottom line is they got to keep more of the buyer's money and pay us less. They do at least let you opt out (which I did).

Some agencies, like Dreamstime, handle the partnership arrangements via an API that's live - if you opt out of partnership sales, your images are immediately removed from sales with their partners. Some agencies take up to 90 days to remove images after you opt out. Alamy only lets you opt out once a year (in April, I think).

There are virtually no rules - the agencies make up whatever terms they like. They'll tell you it'll increase your sales, but in the internet age, it's hard to fathom why this practice continues other than to siphon off some of the money a buyer pays to a business that does virtually nothing to earn what they keep. In the case of Alamy, they get 40% of what the buyer pays and the contributor gets only 30%.  I'm guessing, but we never get to see these deals in detail, that if there are fees paid to the agency we upload to as part of the creation of the deal, contributors see no part of that money (as it's not a sale of an image license, just a fee for a deal).

I uploaded a couple of my images to www.ingramportal.com (http://www.ingramportal.com) and those are my images that are listed on this website (ingimage). They might be working with other companies too (on ingram you can opt in or out of distribution partners, including Getty or Alamy).
