Title: Alamy "doing microstock" !?
Post by: Anyka on July 31, 2009, 14:17
After three months without sales at Alamy, I was very surprised to see 4 images sold in one day ... until I saw at what price they were sold :  17 dollars for the 4 images together.  They were sold under the new "novel use" license, with means I get 50% of it = 8,5 dollars for 4 photos.

I almost forgot what "novel use" meant, so I checked my Alamy e-mail announcements and this is a quote :
The scheme is optional and shouldn’t be confused with Micropayment.

OK, I'll do my best and NOT confuse this with Microstock ...  ???

I optioned in for Novel-Use right from the beginning nothing happened till today, suddenly 33 sales appeared today :-). I like it, the usage for Novel Use is strictly restricted you can't compare it to the wide usability of Microstock. Actually it is like Microstock always should have been small prices for educational and small usages, big/normal prices for business and big usages!

Just checked the Alamy Forum it looks like many have got reported NU sales today, so maybe they have launched it somewhere or picked up a big education account.

For me it greys the line between Macro and Micro, the Alamy images must be RF to qualify and if I wanted $1 sales and $0.50 commissions for my Alamy images then the images would be on the micros where they might get volume sales.

I haven't had a sales in 6 weeks (this time last year I got one every 2-3 days I need to rekeyword but its not just that)
I've had a few novel use sales up to now but just had
231 novel use sales in one day!!! ??????
(10 @ $4, rest $1)
there is quite a number of people in alamy forum reporting numbers of novel use sales today too ?

I opted out of novel use but I thought they included RM?  If it is just RF, I might opt in.

Wow, 6 Novel use sales for me too, today.  All for $4 each except one for $1.  Weirdness.  Hey, sales are still sales.  I hope this keeps up.  A handful of sales like this each day, and I just might have to start submitting to Alamy again.  I've been really busy and have had them on the back burner for a while.

My guess is they have been running for a long time but only reported sales today for some reason.
