I am not exactly sure how alexa rating work but thought this was interesting:

The most visited sites in all 'Royalty Free' categories.

1. IStockPhoto.com
www.istockphoto.com - Site info
2. Dreamstime Stock Photography
www.dreamstime.com - Site info
3. ShutterStock
www.shutterstock.com - Site info
4. Photos.com
www.photos.com - Site info
5. BigStockPhoto
www.bigstockphoto.com - Site info
6. Fotolia
www.fotolia.com - Site info
7. Inmagine Royalty Free Stock Photos
www.inmagine.com - Site info
8. FreeFoto.com
www.freefoto.com - Site info
9. Comstock Images
www.comstock.com - Site info
10. Can Stock Photo
www.canstockphoto.com - Site info

After seeing this, it makes me wonder about the ones i dont know of.  Does anyone submit to photos.com, inmagine.com, freefoto.com or comstock.com and how are sales there.

I applied to inmagine and they politly showed me the door to 123rf. They are apprently the same company.

It is surprising shutterstock is lower than dreamstime.

i believe that alexa ratings are created by people who have the alexa toolbar.  The toolbar counts where you go and how often and so on.. then creates stats for alexa.

Anyone submitting to photos.com?  I looked at that site but can't figure out how to submit.  Is it like one of those private community-type things you have to be asked to join or something?  Not sure what its all about

or it might tap into other sites.  Anyone know for sure?

The hits are probably high because if you want to look at photos, you go to photo.com (the simplicity of the internet is one of its stong points).

At the bottom of the photos.com website is a copyright from Jupiterimages...

I do know that Comstock is like Getty, you have to be a working professional, and the pictures sell for sometimes hundreds of dollars.   Those are what's known as macrostock, I've heard (which weren't really called that until microstock became a "word").  Picturestock is a good one, but they require you send them your example submissions on CD and they have a really strict acceptance policy as well (i.e. you have to prove you're a trained, professional and skilled photographer).

But really, how many sites are we going to submit to?  I already submit to 12 and I spend hours uploading 10 pictures to 12 different sites (even with the EXIF data embedded on my pics).  I guess I'm kinda overloaded right now as it is.

Photos.com and Comstock belong to JupiterImages.  I never found any link in any of Jupiterimages sites about how to submit.

And have you found any you can submit to?  Perhaps only if one was open when they took over, but I've been to many of those sites before and never saw a photographer submission page.

Adelaide

you can submit to StockXpert.  It is very easy to.  Sales are slow but picking up as it is quite a new site.

I am surprised they have so many options.  At some point they will need to consolidate their libraries (even if they keep different front ends) in to groups of microstock and marco stock wont they.

Yes, I'm there already and have had a few (but profitable) sales.  But this is one example of a site that was already open to the general contributors before JupiterImages took over, like Getty to iStock.

I thought stockXchange - sXc was the existing site - free photos - which Jupiter bought and then launched the pay version - stockXpert which has only been live for a few months??

CJPhoto,

I can't tell, but I had already signed with SX when I read news saying JupiterImages bought it, so I assumed the site was created first.

But then anyway it would be the only JupiterImages site I know if that accepts public submissions.  Am I wrong?

Adelaide

yeah that is interesting.

That graph is pretty accurate to my $pppy average.

My graphs show that Istock is quite a bit higher than the rest, with shutterstock as number two.  Dreamstime however is coming up quickly, and passing shutterstock, who is slowing going a bit down... which is basically what the graph at alexa says
