Title: And the pay rise is ....
Post by: BaldricksTrousers on January 02, 2011, 11:43
where?

This used to be the season of high expectations, when agencies announced the commission rises (and price rises) that kept the earnings going up despite the rate of growth of collections.

This year, I've heard nothing (good). Am I missing something? Or are we just going to have to battle harder and harder to try to keep our heats above water?

Yes, very depressing.  No good news, but still waiting for the other shoe to drop at Istock.

Any site that has the foresight to actually give us some sort of raise would most likely be rewarded with quite a bit of contributor loyalty, and perhaps buyer traffic directed there.

OTOH, at this point, all they have to do is not screw us over and most of us will feel pretty good about them.  If we don't get a pay cut this year, we will count ourselves lucky.

You nailed it, Donna.  I remember when Monday was that dreaded day of the week.  Now, we're looking forward to Monday.   :o ;D

If I were running a competing microstock site I wouldn't change a thing for now.  With the massive changes buyers are seeing at IS, I wouldn't want to disillusion any potential converts by raising my own prices yet.  That we haven't heard of a single price hike coming even with the economy showing signs of turning up, tells me that the agencies are expecting an influx of new buyers from IS and want to convert them and keep them.

If this indeed happens, I wouldn't be surprised to see price hikes in the summer.

Makes total sense Dan.  Hope you are right about potential price rises later in the year.  (not rooting for anything outrageous, BTW, buyers, just sort of a cost of living increase)

Absitively. With all the shenanigans going on at IS this should be the time when every other significant agency should be blowing their marketing budgets to lure disillusioned IS buyers to them. Massive opportunity which won't last forever.

Somehow I doubt that Jon Oringer will be sitting on his hands at this point though. I think he'll be working on fully exploiting the frustration of IS  buyers. It sure seems to be working out for him so so far.

The question is, if there are price hikes in the summer, will any money "trickle down" to the contributor?

Pixmac just made a pretty nice announcment about pay rises. They may not be iS or SS or whatever, but they way they're going it's a bright start :)

I just read this and was wondering if anyone here is using Pixmac.  I had not really paid much attention to them - they look more like a reseller of images from dreamstime and some other sites but you can also directly upload to them. Is anyone using them and have they been growing as it seems to indicate?  I see from the monthly earnings survey that they are a low earner (or at least not reported much by MSG members).

Good questions, Jamirae.  May be worth starting a separate thread?
