Hi!
It might seem stupid but I am thinking what if... I would buy a small agency and put it on its way to success, step by step?
What about an empty working microstock web-site to start afresh? Does anybody know any prices about that?
Thanks.

Snapixel was for sale a while ago on flippa and didn't sell. You could try contacting the owners
http://www.microstockgroup.com/general-stock-discussion/own-your-own-stock-agency (http://www.microstockgroup.com/general-stock-discussion/own-your-own-stock-agency)!/
other than that, I'd suggest starting at the bottom of the list on the right and working your way up. I'm sure one of the sites about to close it's doors would be happy to sell out.

Your idea is not stupid at all. Better trying to revive an existing site than opening a new hopeless one.
"Superhug" disappeared a few months ago without a notice - with all of our pictures by the way!
I don't know if they are selling out, and if there's a way to contact them, but surely they are gone. The site itself wasn't too bad.

WarmPics (oops that's a porn site), warmimages, warmphoto, warmpictures, (one of these? There's some kind of identity common name problem, I can't find the site right now?) is a well run, smaller site, loads of good photos and big efforts. Ask him how he's doing?
Found it, here's the really hard working small site that an individual started: http://www.warmpicture.com/ (http://www.warmpicture.com/) He also invitedonly the top people to contribute, so easy review stress, and many good proven people.
For the others, there's a reason they are small and reason they will stay small.
So you want to compete with Walmart, or maybe Home Depot or how about McDonald's? Well, just find a dying small business and make it a giant?
Point is, there's a reason why the big stay big and the new small ones, are very scarce and unusual. In the real world and the Internet. The success stories we read, all the failures, just pass in the night, unseen and unknown.

I'd say go for it if you feel comfortable doing all the SEO stuff and navigating whatever code they provide you. I might be wary of buying the reputation of some of these sites too. I guess you can always rebrand.
I was curious about whatever happened to Clustershot after they were bought, so that might be one to inquire about. It's not really a traditional agency though.

You should inquire to stockfuel.com

I was serious with www.ask4photos.com (http://www.ask4photos.com)
I know the owner and you could always take a look and ask him.
