Title: Anyone else still waiting for Eyeem payment?
Post by: Roscoe on July 01, 2022, 09:08
I'm still waiting for my May payout at Eyeem.
The payout status is still in status "Requested".
Already reached out to their support, but no answer so far.

So I'm hesitating to request my June payout.

For anyone who's interested: I did request my June payout, but 10 days later, this one also remains in status "requested".
So they are two months behind now.

I wrote their support on the first of June about the May payment, still haven't got an answer.

So beware. Eyeem might be the next one to close shop.

I just recently requested my Eyeem account to be closed. (after a long series of 1 cent "sales") It seems they are processing a lot of those requests at the moment. Support has been back to me and offers payout, but so far nothing...

I am actually not a friend of account closures. It's just a pity for all the work and sometimes higher sales come in unexpectedly.
But with recent sales via Adobe, for which I get only 10 cents, Eyeem has then cracked my pain threshold.

I canceled my account 2 months ago. The whole thing went quickly, friendly and without problems.

I also believe that the agency is at the end.

I also believe that the agency is at the end.

Can we still consider them as an agency? There was a time when direct sales were not uncommon, often at rather decent commissions.
Those days seem to be long gone and all I get are distributor sales from Getty or Adobe. (which they don't pay anymore)

So yeah, in case of no payments, account closure is the only thing left to do.

If they have no direct sales, they are not an agency.

From the start eyeem has always denied they do stock…they are not an agency…etc…finally their marketing caught up with them.

They have enough great content to be a superb agency, but you need the determination to stand on your own feet and build your own brand and not just be the stocking in someone else's shoe.

I certainly made good money while it lasted, but they could have been fantastic.

eta:

Just read in their facebook group that they haven‘t paid contributors in two months and send emails it might take several WEEKS for the payout.

That sounds like they are closing down. If you cannot pay your suppliers, then not paying the rent and the team is next.

Just found out they were bought by Talenthouse (https://business.talenthouse.com (https://business.talenthouse.com)) in March, so delayed payments might as well have to do something with that.
Maybe they ran out of money and needed a new investor who is able to turn things around. And we all know who feel the pain when agencies decide they need more profit/cost reductions. Or maybe not, and they just need time (really? two months?) to rearrange their financial structures and payment systems.

I'm not really invested in Eyeem and earnings there only account for some monthly lunch money at best. But it shows that working with distributors rather than agencies can be a risky business. If the distributor runs into trouble, you lose all the income streams of any agency they distributed the content to. And what happens with the images that were distributed to different agencies? They remain online to feed the debt collectors, investors, and anyone else except contributors who thinks they need some money?

Anyhow, let's wait and see what happens. Might as well be a long stretched glitch in their payment system.

@cobalt: agree. Sad to see how it went. There's some great offbeat, creative and authentic content on Eyeem. I love browsing their collections to kill time and find inspiration.
But in the end, the only thing that ever sold there for me are the run-of-the-mill stock images and I guess many other contributors are in the same boat.

Yeah:

"Hey,

Thank you so much for your patience around our payouts to you, our community.

As you may be aware Talenthouse AG has undergone a significant corporate process involving merging companies, which means we aren’t able to get payments processed as quickly as we’d hoped. We’re disappointed that we were unable to pay you on time, and are working tirelessly to ensure payment is received smoothly from now on.

Rest assured you absolutely will be paid. We’re preparing our next payment schedules so we’ll aim to get you paid within the next few weeks.

Thank you again for your patience and for bearing with us as we organise internally. We couldn’t do what we do without you."

Small update: despite the email from their support, still no payments from May and June.
It even gets worse: they fail to deliver sales reports from July.
I never had a month with no (partner) downloads at Eyeem, and a lot of fellow contributors also complain about missing sales reports.

Seems logical. Why report sales if they don't pay anyway? It'd only make you feel bad. They're even smarter than ClipDealer.

Of course I still hope it's just a technical issue.

I have requested the colsure of my Eyeemaccount already a month ago. Nothing happens, the account is still up. No sales report either. I wrote them again, and got this quite fast answer.

Hi Kim

we have received your request to fully delete your EyeEm account. Please allow us 7 days to do so. This will pull all your images from EyeEm Market and our Partners. Partner image takedowns can take up to 21 days.

Please make sure that you are requesting your account deletion from the exact same email address that is associated to your EyeEm account. Otherwise we won't be able to process this request.

If you have pending payouts, we will trigger them to be paid out before deleting your account. This will add an additional week, to assure your payout goes through. In case you don't wish to receive that last payment but rather speed up your account deletion process, then please reply with "No payout request needed, please delete my account asap".

Best,
your EyeEm Support Team

PS: If you have changed your mind or if you want to change the type of deletion request, then please reply to this message by copy & pasting one of the other three [ ] options below. Right now the request marked with
  • is activated:
  • Please delete my full EyeEm account and all images on EyeEm Market and Partners

[ ] Please delete all my images (Market and Partners) but keep my account active (to keep access to payouts history, keep receiving newsletters, etc)
[ ] Please only delete my images that are on Partners (keep my EyeEm account and Market images)
[ ] I have changed my mind, please don't take any action / I did not request an account deletion

The 21 days referred to have already expired onc without result.
But I notice taht they can speed things up if I do not want my pending payments. In other words, they are broke!

Could be, things are not going well with Talenthouse I just found out.

Meanwhile there's a lot of complaining on social media. Not only regarding EyeEm but also regarding other brands under the Talenthouse umbrella.
A lot of the contributors and creatives are still waiting for payments by Talenthouse.

I'd strongly advice against providing them new content, and it might be wise to try to get your images removed from their platform and partner sites. (if you can get it done, they don't seem to be responding to those kinds of requests anymore)

I know nothing about finance, but maybe someone can understand what it means.

They issue shares to pay of their short term debt. Kind of last resort not to go bankrupt due to cashflow problems most likely. Probably no bank wanted to lend them money to do that. It will not be long until they dissapear looking at their multiple year financial statements. Loss over loss, revenue decline over revenue decline and shrinking as a whole year by year. Hopeless case for a company.

We completely agree. I understand nothing we say can help the situation, but please know that paying our creatives is our top priority! I wish I had more control over the situation but we will get you paid.

We love working with you and soon once we sort out these delays we will work as a company to reduce payment terms.

Kind regards,
Lauren

It seem they owe several contributors money whose work was used on platforms like Netflix etc. If you search twitter you will find several people saying they've been waiting for months for money. Getty refers the contributors to EyeEm who does not respond at all. They still receiving our sales through Getty.

In the eyeem facebookgroup there is a contributor who is now taking eyeem to court and also trying to get a criminal case going accusing them of fraud.

If you look around the net apparently there are many other artists from their platforms also complaining about delays of over 9 months before they get paid.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/EyeEmMarket (https://www.facebook.com/groups/EyeEmMarket)

I suppose it will end with eyeem being sold again….

I wonder how they were able to buy it in the first place, knowing they probably didn't had the financial balance and outlook to do so.

Nice to see that someone wants to go through the hassle of taking legal actions just to prove a point, not necessarily getting paid.

I see two possible outcomes:

- Talenthouse finds new investors and is able to pay the contributors and everyone else they own money to.
Restoring trust is the only way to survive and ensure future business.

- They go bankrupt, while meanwhile the images at partners stay online and are still generating sales which ends up the trustee who handles the bankruptcy and tries to pay as many creditors as possible? Again, contributors probably last in row? And what happens afterwards? Images remain online and nobody gets paid? Or will someone take the effort to effectively remove the content from all their partner sites?

June is still behind, and sales reports and possible payouts from July too.

That train has left the station I'm afraid. It's been months since I had a direct sale on EyeEm, and before that months too.

But sure, they have to do something, otherwise it's a matter of time before they burn through their money again.
They recently partnered up with Alamy if I understood it correctly, but I can hardly imagine this will save them.

New sales are being reported again too.
But it's unclear for me whether this is the sales report from June (which we normally would have gotten at the end of July/beginning of August), or the sales report from July, which we normally would expect end of August (now)/beginning September.

Apparently no payments since September 22.

Last payment only came after one artist took a lawyer and started preparing to sue them for fraud.

If you read the article in the Guardian it does look like talenthouse is a fraudulent company that specifically targets artists, many living in countries where they cannot afford an international lawyer.

It is a shame that eyeem was sold to people like these.

I don't think they are a fraudulent company by intend, but they surely are in serious financial trouble.

The company’s loss has recently broadened since it announced a CHF231k loss in the full financial year, compared to the latest trailing-twelve-month loss of CHF1.0m, moving it further away from breakeven. Many investors are wondering about the rate at which Talenthouse will turn a profit, with the big question being “when will the company breakeven?”

They are biting the hands that feed them by not paying the people that deliver the product they sell.
And I can imagine that investors are getting very nervous and hesitant in keeping them afloat.

It really doesn't look good.
