A great month April doesnt normally outsell other months of the year, but this month I romped home with total sales of just over $1450 a personal best. The month was helped by three sales on Alamy, for a total of $214,three video downloads on Pond5 for $75 and another great month on Shutterstock of $513. iStock recovered from a poor March to end with $271 compared to $235,and the other sites were OK if not at their best. That makes three sites with a best month ever earning total for April Shutterstock,iStock and Alamy.

More graphs on my blog as usual.

Hi steve, is your earnings in alamy is the sales or the commissions? sometimes it gets exciting to see alamy sales but what the real earnings is only like 60% of it..

Slightly better than March...

Down 7% from March.  Which, not coincidentally, is nearly my average decline from March to April over the past seven years (6%).  On the other hand, April 2012 is up 54% from April 2011.  I kinda like that.

Not a great month overall for me - down about 20% from March.

IS:
Compared to March 12
-25%
Compared to April 11
+22%

Video:
SS: BME for video (though these stats are still pretty meaningless since I added about 55 of the 77 clips I have there at the end of March).
Pond 5: Worst month this year (but also based on really low numbers)

Well since March blew my previous BME out of the water, and April is traditionally slower for me, I was expecting a big slump.

But pleasantly surprised! April became my second best month ever, down about 20% from March but a lot better than any other month this year.

Winners this month: SS, 123RF, Alamy.

Hope this positive trend continues.

About 10% below average, down across the board. Possibly six weeks without uploading (all of March and the first fortnight of April) was an issue.

Tnx. I'll enjoy it while it lasts, because I know when my port will get into 4 digits and especially higher ones, I'll first see a slowdown, then my earnings will hit plateau and then start falling. It happened or is happening to most of the big timers, it's the law of nature...I mean business, this business.

Yup, read my previous post, it's inevitable. The sooner you'll accept it, the easier it will be for you. I'm already accepting it, in advance I mean, I won't be disappointed when it starts to happen to me. The only good thing is, I still have over 3k photos to go (but than again I'm still earning peanuts, compared to big timers)...

^^^ I have no plan of "accepting" it.
You can if you wish.
I won't let one bad month spoil my plans.

Hmmm... I've been surprised twice this morning.

I didn't think March was a BME, but I just added in the actual TS figures (rather than the previous estimate) and it turned out to be a BME after all.

As for April... it was lower than I'd  thought.  About 20% down from March overall.

Top four were:

1.  Shutterstock (as ever  On par with last month)
2.  iStock (down about 40% on March.  Argh.)
3. 123RF (up from March.  Steady performer)
4. DT (on par with last month)

FT continues to perform poorly for me, so I've come to expect little there, but was shocked to see it down a further 50% from March.    FT took 7th place for me this month.

It has been BME on all months since I started as a contributor 1.5 years ago. I have just around 250+ images in SS, so I think I can enjoy this trend for a few more months. My april has just been marginally better than march. Hope may will be much better!

I sell motion graphics only. My April's earnings on most stocks continue to trend downward.
EditableClips and Shutterstock are kind exceptions.

About 30% less than March.  Down at all sites except DP, which has had a BME for the past three months.  Hopefully it will end up being the worst month of the year.

@ Tyler (if you're around)...

Are we going to see a return of the red/green arrows?  I do miss seeing an easy visual representation of how the group is doing, as it's interesting to weigh that up against my own stats.

Interesting so many people are down around 20% from March.  I'm down 19% too, so it seems to be the norm (except for Wut - congratulations!).   Also down 5% from April 2011, which is discouraging.  Once PP sales are added I should be just about even with last year though.

What's really worrying is the way both IS and FT have fallen off the map for me.  The downward spiral seems to be continuing and possibly even accelerating at both sites.

Hope that SS and DT will continue to deliver.

If not for good performing newer sites like PhotoDune and Depositphoto things would be even worse.

I had a BME, SS had a BME.  Still don't know what those $16 single image sales are for but I like them.    Very good month at DT also, but this last search change looks like it will be worse than terrible for me.

IS exclusive.

By count: -11% from March, -16% from April 2011. Portfolio size increased 5% from March and 38% from April 2011 (busy, busy!).

By $: -10% from March, +17% from April 2011 (due mostly to the XS price increase, I believe -- I get a LOT of XS sales, though now that mine are FOUR TIMES the price of independent files, I bet the number will decrease even more drastically).

The writing on the wall is obscene.
